🇺🇸 5 Things to watch at the #DemocraticNationalConvention 👁️ The Hill https://lnkd.in/gvttpHMt 🇺🇸 What to watch at Dem convention: Party unity and protesters Democrats’ four-day show in Chicago to nominate Vice President Harris, which begins today, could win over uncommitted voters to defeat former President Trump, or it could spell a new, tougher phase for a campaign that has 78 days to go. Is Harris doing better with key blocs of voters than was President Biden a month ago? Yes. Has she raised a war chest that can go the distance and reach voters outside the Democratic Party? Yes. Are she and Trump neck and neck, according to polls in battleground states? Also yes. This week’s nominating convention will highlight all of that. And it will also expose Democrats’ divisions over the war in Gaza, thanks to protests planned in Chicago. The party’s urban vs. rural and progressive vs. moderate splits will be analyzed by the news media as Californian Harris takes her nominating bow in Illinois alongside Gov. Tim Walz (D), her running mate from Minnesota. Speakers from Congress will include Democrats from New York, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). #unitedstates #DNC #uspolitics #uspresidency #HarrisWalz

For real this is the best team in politics.
The Dover Strategy Group team (and family members) had a great time this weekend at a rally for our candidate Kina Collins, with a live concert featuring the Strokes, Beach Bunny, and NNAMDI! The music was incredible - and so was seeing so many #IL07 Democratic voters getting energized to vote in next Tuesday's primary!

Hi all – Ahead of Donald Trump’s attempts to rewrite his disastrous record at the debate tonight, the DNC is rolling out a major offensive across Atlanta emphasizing just how much Americans stand to lose if Trump gets another chance in the White House. The ads will run across a mobile billboard that will circle the debate venue and five billboards near the site. For the first time, the DNC will hold Trump responsible for undermining democracy in Georgia and his role in the January 6 insurrection through a mobile billboard confronting him at the debate venue, while the billboards will highlight Trump’s new status as a convicted felon, as well as his economic failures and plans to rip away Americans’ freedoms. Find a statement from DNC Spokesperson Abhi Rahman below: “As Donald Trump prepares to lie for 90 straight minutes on the debate stage this evening, the DNC is already on the ground in Atlanta to remind voters of how he tried to undermine Georgia’s democracy, threatens to leave working families behind again, and is hellbent on ripping away reproductive freedoms. Voters will see the stark contrast tonight between President Biden, a true leader who wakes up every day fighting for the American people, is overseeing historic job growth, fighting to lower costs for families, and defending Americans’ rights, and Donald Trump, a convicted felon who is only fighting for himself, puts the needs of working families and voters last, and wants to ban abortion nationwide. Tonight, voters across the country will see the clear choice in front of them, and they will make Trump a loser once again in November.” Find billboard locations below: W/S I-85 @ 528 Plasters Avenue Facing North and South E/S I-85 700' S/O Buford Hwy Exit 86 LHR Facing North and South E/S I 75/85 S/O Lakewood Freeway RHR Facing South Please reach out with any questions you may have! "By building partnerships between citizens and governments, politicians will be better equipped to be bolder and to go further in addressing our collective challenges" – great piece in the Financial Times from Polly Curtis, CEO of Demos👏 We're very excited to be partnering with Demos on a major new project. Our joint Citizens' White Paper will set out how, when and why governments should involve the public in policy-making and decisions, including how #citizenassemblies can be used to help find solutions to our biggest challenges. https://lnkd.in/eXqgh-wx

"There's nothing in the middle of the road but yellow stripes and dead armadillos." So I was told several years ago when describing my political wishes as a moderate. Well, there's actually a lot of us. It seems that 99% of my friends describe themselves as political moderates. Not far left, nor far right, but somewhere just off the center. But we have indeed been squished flat. Over the last two decades, we have witnessed increasingly polarized parties move away from even paying lip service to court the moderate voter, choosing instead to prioritizing policies that speak to the extremes. The duopolistic political party system we have in the US creates structural barriers against a third party that would pull the moderate vote together (though we can dream...). But what if we had mandatory voting? Could it help to create an environment where politicians had more incentive to reach across the aisle and find middle-of-the-road positions, in order to appeal to the 36% (approx) of the electorate that don't bother showing up at the polls otherwise? We could use a system of tax rebates to create incentives for people to vote, rather than fines to punish them for not voting. Thoughts? Any other ideas for ways to give moderate voters a real voice?

Let's unveil the hypocrisy of the political charade we witnessed earlier this week when political forces attempted to silence pro-Palestinian voices. Governor Greg Abbott’s recent decision to deploy state troopers to suppress a peaceful pro-Palestinian protest at the University of Texas at Austin has laid bare a troubling hypocrisy and abuse of power. The pretext of protecting Jewish students from antisemitism was nothing more than a thinly veiled political maneuver, sacrificing civil liberties under the guise of security. The stark contrast between the first day of arrests and heavy police presence, followed by a surprisingly subdued reaction on the second day, speaks volumes about the true motivations behind Abbott’s actions. It’s evident that the initial show of force was a calculated move to quash dissent and score political points, rather than genuinely ensuring the safety of all students. By exploiting concerns for Jewish students’ safety, Abbott and his administration weaponized the issue to justify excessive policing and trample on the constitutional rights of protesters. This flagrant abuse of power not only undermines the principles of free speech and peaceful assembly but also sets a dangerous precedent for the suppression of dissenting voices. Furthermore, the selective application of rules to justify heavy-handed tactics further exposes the hypocrisy at play. While claiming to uphold order and security, the state troopers’ actions reeked of authoritarianism and a disregard for the fundamental rights of citizens. The second day’s comparatively calm reaction to protesters, with few if any arrests, only serves to highlight the arbitrary nature of the crackdown on the first day. It’s clear that Abbott and his administration knew they had overstepped their bounds and were attempting to salvage their image by dialing back the aggression. In the end, Abbott’s political charade did not silence pro-Palestinian voices and exposed the lengths to which those in power are willing to go to suppress dissent. The people of Texas deserve leaders who respect their rights and uphold the principles of democracy and free speech, not ones who exploit fear and division for their own gain. It’s time to hold Governor Abbott accountable for his hypocrisy and abuse of power.

White power and privilege in action. This is how the voices of people of colour are silenced. The system is built to favour those who hold power. The structures and authority awarded people within them allows oppression of voices of dissent and protest. This is how our democracy works in 2024. https://lnkd.in/gegsRM5v
SBS News on Instagram: "Greens senator Mehreen Faruqi was asked to withdraw part of her statement in the Senate, as she criticised the motion to censure Senator Lidia Thorpe over her protest during King Charles' visit. Faruqi called the motion a "disgrace" and said the Senate wanted to "police black women" and how they "disrupt and dissent". Read more @sbsnews_au (link in bio)."
