Sharing this announcement from the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD): Policy Fellowship Opportunity Explore a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build connections between child development research and public policy. In the SRCD U.S. Policy Fellowship program, experienced child development researchers spend an immersive one to two years working to improve evidence-based policymaking. Fellows receive a competitive stipend, professional development and mentorship, and explore alternate career paths. The Fellowship is fully supported by grants. With almost 250 alumni over our 30+ years of success, we have placed fellows in 20 states in all regions of the country, as well as Washington, D.C. We have supported fellows across 23 different Congresses and 7 different administrations, starting in the Carter era! Among our alumni are some of the most influential researchers in developmental science, senior staff at federal and state agencies, and philanthropic leaders. What fantastic news! 🎆 👋The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) has just shared some exciting updates. They are allocating $2.7 million in grants to support robotics teams and STEM internship programs in the state. These grants will be administered by DEED's Office of Youth Development and are intended to prepare high school students for careers in STEM fields. Organizations such as Comunidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio (CLUES), High Tech Kids, and Minnesota STEM Partnership will receive these grants. With this funding, they will establish robotics teams, provide training, and create internship opportunities with tech companies. 💡This initiative aims to enhance STEM education and provide students with exciting prospects in Minnesota. Does the place where you are born determine your income when you are n years old or is the upward mobility unchanged? What causal effects does the neighborhood produce? Are you familiar with the Harlem Children Zone project? Are you familiar with the opportunity atlas? https://lnkd.in/eDsH_seP - Do test scores in kindergarten and later influence career progression? Is the K-12 system fair? Does the environment in which you grow up indirectly determine whether you attend an Ivy League university? What similarities exist between the 1930s and today? Is racial inequality or the black-white gap favored by the environment? Of course, more questions were addressed as subjects within the course. I can summarize my subjective assessment of the course with the words "interesting, enriching and at the same time frightening" or alternatively in an objective nature with the question "how can you use data to examine socio-economic problems / questions ?".
