The gas now flows into Tyra II and is sent via a pipeline to Nybro on the west coast of Denmark. An amazing project is coming to an end. Hundreds of thousands of man-hours have been spent preparing the old Tyra for production shutdown and subsequently preparing the old platforms for lift-off and scrapping. The new topsides' delivery was unfortunately delayed for several reasons, including the worldwide Corona epidemic. The first batch of new platforms was topsides for the existing jackets. These modules with associated bridges were built in Singapore and were installed in the North Sea in late 2021, after which the hook-up work started. The large process module TEG, and associated bridges were installed in October 2022, putting all the pieces in place for the completion of Tyra II My first encounter with this huge project started almost 9 years ago. Based on the first Hook-Down packages from Ramboll, I was asked for an estimate and a plan for preparation for the lift-off of the bridges on Tyra East and Tyra West. Later, many more Hook-Down packages were added, and we ended up with a fairly large plan for executing all this preparatory work, work that had to be completed before Sleipnir, the world's largest semi-submersible crane vessel, arrived at the Tyra fields in the summer of 2020 to remove the bridges and the topsides of the smaller well and riser platforms. Preparation for the lifting of platforms and bridges was achieved on time despite a very tight schedule. Completion of lift-off was followed by a long period onshore with planning the Hook-Up of the new Wellhead and Riser platforms and the large process module TEG. Hook-up and preparation of the new platforms has been a fantastic and integrated team effort in a multicultural environment, where many different nationalities and cultures had to learn to work together. Personally, it has been extremely rewarding to be surrounded by so many colleagues with different backgrounds and different skills, and it has been interesting to follow the development from being different teams with their own tasks, to becoming a unified team with a single goal in mind, the start-up of gas exports from Tyra II. I feel very well-prepared and motivated for the next tasks coming my way, and will always be grateful to have participated in a project of this size and complexity :-)
🇩🇰 We are pleased to restart the Tyra hub, one of the most technologically advanced #offshore gas installations in the world! 🌍 The resumption of the gas production from this field will improve Europe’s security of supply. Discovered in 1968 by Maersk Oil, Tyra is located 225 kilometres west of the coast of Esbjerg in #Denmark. In September 2019, #gas production was suspended to enable its redevelopment. The new Tyra leverages state-of-the-art #digital solutions and technological innovations to produce more efficiently and with 3️⃣0️⃣% lower greenhouse gas emissions than the former facilities. As part of this redevelopment project, 98.5% of the materials recovered from the retired installations have been reused or recycled! ♻️ Read our press release ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eGmPkmpA

Today on RNZ Morning Report, our Chief Executive John Carnegie talked to Ingrid Hipkiss about Methanex Corporation New Zealand closing until the end of October, and why the slew of industrial shutdowns show the full extent of the dysfunction in the NZ gas sector. Methanex has effectively acted to balance the gas market, but this solution can only be used once. New Zealand needs two things urgently - more gas exploration and new gas-fired power stations. Only these can reliably and affordably fill the energy gap when the hydro lake levels are low, the sun isn’t shining and the wind isn’t blowing. We would also welcome a return to the collaboration across party lines we saw before the shock oil and gas exploration ban in 2018. A commitment to bipartisanship can keep the lights on and Kiwi homes warm and dry while we also strive to meet our climate goals. Time for the politicians to build bridges not rehash old policies. Until our political parties work at pace to undo this damage, our energy supply security and energy system resilience to unexpected shocks remain at significant risk. https://lnkd.in/gVna2D5a | RNZ #buildingbridges #bipartisanship #energysecurity #affordableenergy #balancedtrilemma #climateaction #lessonslearned Christopher Luxon Chris Hipkins Megan Woods Simeon Brown Simon Court @Shane Jones Karen Boyes
