#careertip Allow me share a tip that has worked for me in my career;- DO WHAT YOU LOVE! When i got my 1st job in one of the big banks as a service officer/teller, I was excited, I worked tirelessly, I was one of the fastest tellers with the highest number of transactions everyday. I was a sweetheart to customers. At some point I was voted miss eastern region in that bank at one of the end of year party🤣 I still have a strong bond with that bank! But.. did i really love the kind of work? Not quite, so I told myself look, JT, you gat to find what you love, and boom i saw a job ad at a one of the media houses, I applied and got the job, the rest is history. Good people, if you want to flourish. Love what you do. Find a career or business you like, when you put your heart and soul into something you love, your soul will grow and as you grow, so will your confidence, as your confidence grows, you will become passionate, you will flourish and people will notice you. People will want to work with you and this is when the money will come to you. I know sometimes we do what we do because it's the only available source of income, I want to encourage us not to give up on our dreams. It shall come, it may not be today or tomorrow but it shall happen for as long as you put your mind to it. Even with your current job. learn to love it, u will see magic. Ps; I am still chasing money but atleast I love what I do and I put my heart and soul to it, I can smell money😄 Do what you love, Love what you do! Please share your experience, it may change a life🙏 Blessed day!

Your next interaction could shape your career Over 15 years ago when I walked into a bank to open a checking account. Little did I know, that simple interaction would set the course for my entire professional journey. The banker, noticing my personality, suggested I consider applying for a teller job. At the time, I had never even thought about working in a bank. But that chance encounter turned into an opportunity that paid for my college degree, led to multiple promotions, and eventually opened the door to my current field in talent acquisition. That one conversation, sparked by something as routine as opening a checking account, became the unexpected catalyst for my career. Looking back, it's amazing how a single moment can change the trajectory of your professional life. My advice? Stay open to the unexpected. Sometimes the opportunities that transform your career come from the most unlikely places. #CareerAdvice #CareerJourney #Networking #Opportunities #Recruiting

As a banking professional with over 15 years of experience, I have learned that career growth can take many forms. While vertical moves up the corporate ladder are often seen as the ultimate goal, horizontal moves can also provide valuable opportunities for growth and development. #Positive #impacts of career jumps: 1. Exposure to different aspects of the business 2. Opportunity to develop a diverse skill set 3. Adaptability to learn new company cultures 4. Competitive edge in the job market #Negative #impacts of career jumps: 1. Potential loss of specialized knowledge 2. Difficulty in establishing long-term relationships 3. Challenges in adapting to new work environments Examples from my experience at Citibank and HSBC: Vertical move: Promotion from Manager Operations to Assistant Vice President - Change gaining management of stakeholder experience. Horizontal move: Transitioned from Securities Services Pillar to Wealth & Personal Banking Pillar, broadening my understanding of the retail industry. What are your thoughts on career growth in banking? Do you prefer vertical or horizontal moves? By the way, Happy Tuesday!

Making the decision to leave my career in banking after 16 years and make the shift to being a part of recruitment was a challenging one. I am most proud of myself for having the courage to take a risk and stop fighting what i needed to do. The transition was not always easy however, i have gained so much knowledge over the past two years that i know I made the right choice. I had my doubts along the way but with the right support from the team and belief I was able to find clarity on what my strenths were. #growthmindset #success #careerchange

Following the recent liquidation of Heritage Bank PLC, which has left people like me jobless and automatically back to the job market. If there is one thing life has taught me or is teaching me as regards this, it would be on failures and setbacks. Failures and setbacks are part of life experiences. They can be really painful, discouraging and possibly leading you to question your whole life, career pursuits and dreams. Nevertheless, I’m trying to see failures and setbacks as a chance of growth; when challenges like this arise, I should take a moment to evaluate. Was it for reasons beyond my control? Is there a lesson to be learned here? When you fail, you are gaining knowledge and taking yourself one step closer to succeeding. This challenge has sparked the inspiration necessary to find new solutions. So right now, I should focus on viewing my setbacks as an opportunity to reflect, improve and move forward. It was such a smooth and beautiful ride working as a Customer Care Representative and as an Account Relationship Manager/ Marketer at Heritage Bank PLC. With all the experiences and skills I have gathered over the years. I look forward to an opportunity to join other financial institutions or financial technology companies. With the ultimate aim of adding value and contributing to their continuous success.

As someone actively seeking new opportunities, I’ve applied to positions over 40 times with Scotiabank and 50 times with CIBC —yet I haven’t landed an interview so far. While this can feel discouraging, I choose to see each application as a step toward the right fit. Each challenge has pushed me to: • Reflect on how to better present my skills and experiences, • Seek feedback from peers and mentors, • Continuously improve my qualifications through courses and self-development. The journey may be tough, but persistence and resilience are key. I’m committed to finding the right role where I can add value and grow. To anyone else in the same position: keep pushing, learn from each experience, and stay focused on the bigger picture. #JobSearch #Perseverance #CareerGrowth #StayPositive #Bank #CIBC #Scotiabank

I thought I’d share this link should anyone be exploring career change options whether you’re starting out or have been in the workplace for sometime these resources from Lloyds Banking Group could be really helpful. It’s so important to enjoy what you do, feel fulfilled, and not feel it’s a chore to get motivated. I’ve been working privately with someone who has felt like this recently and came across this free resource. #BeHappy #EnjoyWhatYouDo #LoveLife https://lnkd.in/eDbdc4Wn

There’s one moment in my career that stands out as a real turning point – and it didn’t feel great at the time. When I was working at HSBC as a cashier, I couldn’t seem to balance my till properly. Every night, I’d sit there with a senior manager trying to figure out where I’d gone wrong. Eventually, the area manager pulled me into his office and said something that hit hard: “You’ve got to be an idiot not to be able to do this job.” It stung, no doubt about it. But then he said something else that changed everything: “We’ve been watching you, and you’re great with people. You’re referring more clients for loans, credit cards, and financial advice than anyone else.” He recognised something in me that I hadn’t seen in myself and he offered to put me on the graduate management programme, even though I didn’t have A-levels. That opportunity opened the door to a whole new path, one that eventually led me to financial advice. Looking back, it’s clear that being “in the wrong role” was actually the push I needed to find the right one. It’s a reminder that career shifts can feel unsettling, even uncomfortable, but they’re often where real growth happens. Sometimes, we need someone else to point out what we’re good at or push us in a direction we hadn’t considered. That moment wasn’t just about finding a better role – it was about recognising my strengths and trusting that change, while daunting, can be the best thing for us. #CareerGrowth #LifeLessons #FinancialAdviceJourney
