One of my favourite parts of the work we do here Rocket Environmental Services is the recording of #historicbuildings (even if we don't exactly always get to see them at their best). The stories they can tell are fascinating and it's a pleasure to help our clients conserve and repurpose them for a #sustainable future. #planningpermission #listedbuildings

The Blue Willow team is on site today working on another energy infrastructure scheme! Our ongoing projects of this nature require us as consultants to think holistically about the significance of a development site, especially when we are considering both built heritage and archaeological remains. Establishing impacts to views of the surrounding area are vital for these schemes, in addition to the setting and significance of any surrounding heritage assets. Of course, public benefit plays a major role in work of this nature. With this in mind, just because a proposed development might constitute less than substantial harm to a designated heritage asset does not mean the scheme is a nonstarter! We take an 'eyes wide open' approach to establishing the archaeological potential of a development site, with the idea that heritage-led design is your best chance at achieving planning success. #planning #design #archaeology #heritage #listedbuildings #listedbuildingsuk #history #heritageconsultant

Are you a fan of ancient architecture and construction techniques? If so, you'll be excited to learn about the latest discovery in Pompeii! Researchers have unearthed an ancient building site that dates back to 79 AD, revealing fascinating insights into Roman construction methods. Among the most intriguing discoveries is evidence of a unique cement-making technique called "hot mixing." This method involved combining quicklime with dry pozzolana and water shortly before construction, resulting in faster drying times and shorter construction periods. https://hubs.ly/Q02rwGPR0 #Construction #Concrete

Uxmal is a captivating archaeological site that showcases the architectural prowess of the ancient Maya civilization. Situated in the Puuc region, Uxmal boasts a unique style of Maya architecture known as "puuc" architecture, characterized by intricate stone mosaics adorning ornate facades. The Governor's Palace stands out as one of the most impressive structures at Uxmal, with its detailed stone carvings and mosaics depicting mythological and historical themes. The facade of the palace is adorned with geometric patterns and symbols, reflecting the Maya's advanced artistic and mathematical knowledge. The Pyramid of the Magician, also called the Pyramid of the Soothsayer, is another iconic structure at Uxmal. Unlike other Maya pyramids built in stages, this pyramid is believed to have been constructed in one continuous effort, giving it a unique rounded shape. Legend has it that the pyramid was magically built overnight by a dwarf born from an egg, adding to its mysterious allure.

A few months ago, I visited Pompeii, and it was like stepping back in time. As I walked through the ancient streets, I was struck by just how much history you're surrounded by. I also learned about the massive preservation efforts that are needed to maintain and preserve Pompeii. What required a drone a few years ago, can now be done with just your phone. I captured a 3D scan using the new DroneDeploy #Mobile3DScan functionality to create a detailed model of Pompeii’s streets. This is one of the structures I scanned that housed one of the preserved victims of Pompeii. The faded frescoes and architecture are visible in high detail, and can be used to decipher and inspect the structure. The surrounding masonary shows varying textures, from smooth plastered areas to more rugged, exposed stonework, highlighting some of the original techniques used in Pompeii’s architecture and the preservation work that's been ongoing for over a century. Has anyone else tried Mobile 3D Scan for projects? Would love to hear your experiences! 👇 #Archaeology #3DScanning #TechForGood #Pompeii #DigitalTwins #Innovation #HistoryPreservation #GroundScanning #FutureOfHistory #ExploreMore

Excited to share my latest blog post exploring the extraordinary monuments around the world that align perfectly with the Sun’s solstice paths, marking the longest and shortest days of the year. In this post, I delve into: * The significance of the solstice throughout history * Iconic monuments like Stonehenge and Egypt's Karnak Temple * The cultural and spiritual meaning behind these structures * How ancient civilisations mastered the art of celestial alignment It's incredible to think about the precision and engineering that went into these structures, and how they’ve withstood the test of time, symbolising renewal and connection to the cosmos. Check it out here https://lnkd.in/ecr8u_7B and let me know your thoughts!
