Design Pressure and Design Temperature (DPDT) Break at Mixing of Two Streams 

In January 2024, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) published a new version of its "Flexible Design Manual" for the design of new flexible pavement or rehabilitation project. FDOT uses the empirical approach of pavement design established by AASHTO in 1993 in their publication "Guide for Design of Pavement Structures". The following formula is used to calculate pavement thickness. This is achieved by finding the Structural Number (SN). SN = Structural Number Required (inches) W18 = Accumulated 18-kip Equivalent Single Axle Loads over the life of the project (18-kip) ESAL. ZR = Standard Normal Deviate MR = Resilient Modulus (psi) SO = Standard Deviation ΔPSI = Change In Serviceability (1.7 is the Department value used) Information and figure taken from FDOT Flexible Design Manual (2024). #FDOT #Pavements #Roads #Sustainability

RBMK is not a basically flawed design. It was only ruined in the detailed design phase as the CRDM space requirements led to too large an assembly pitch (=>overmoderation). From the reactivity safety point of view, continuous loading is actually beneficial. 

Working Group 5 of CEN TC 250 and TensiNet continues to develop the Eurocode part ‘Design of Tensioned Membrane Structures - Execution’ and recently organised two online meetings on 6/11 and 11/12/24. In between, a report on the current work was presented at the CEN TC 250 plenary meeting on 28/11/24. We know that every membrane structure is different. The execution rules should provide guidance for a wide variety of structures. At the end of the day, it has to be approved that the constructed tensioned membrane structure corresponds to the designed structure: the geometry and the prestress have to be checked. The designer knows whether geometry (curvature) or prestress is more critical for a particular structure. Cyclic testing is a type of test that ensures the resilience of the building envelope moving elements, with focus on the hardware, as well as classifying them for high or low traffic or operation cycles. During such a test, the operating force is constantly monitored as it represents a failure criteria, even when no visible damage is observed on the tested element. Also, deformations and displacements are carefully monitored as they can result in a test failure. How many times do you use a lateral resisting system like that in the attached figure for an industrial or architectural purpose?🤔 For those structures with lateral system like that which often will comply with the extreme weak story condition (type 4b of vertical irregularity in table 12.3-2) and assigned in SDC B&C, clause 12.3.3.3 shall be satisfied. This clause said that structures like that shall not be more than 9m in structural height or the weak story shall be capable of resisting the axial load from the over strength load combination so it is recommended to avoid using a system like that as much as you can🙂.
