💞 Paper in DNA 💞 : Origin of Type II tRNA Variable Loops, Aminoacyl-tRNA Synthetase Allostery from Distal Determinants, and Diversification of Life https://lnkd.in/gFs3-_CU 👐 Highlights 👐 1. The type II V arms for each synonymous tRNA set (i.e., in Archaea, 5 tRNALeu and 4 tRNASer) evolved to have a distinct common trajectory for discrimination by LeuRS-IA and SerRS-IIA. 2. The trajectory of the type II V arm is determined by the number of unpaired bases with 5’ of the Levitt base (in Archaea, two unpaired bases for tRNALeu and one unpaired base for tRNASer). 3. Because there are five tRNALeu and four tRNASer in Archaea, the different anticodons cannot be utilized for LeuRS-IA and SerRS-IIA recognition, and the type II V arm is utilized instead. 4. The recognition of the type II V arm by cognate AARS enzymes has an impact on the evolution of the genetic code and the divergence of Archaea and Bacteria.

Watching its twisted, spiral form, I can't help but think of DNA strands and the profound evolutionary journey of life on Earth. Scientists reveal global catalog of microbial small proteins, unlocking microbiome secrets 🦠 Researchers have created a global microbial small open reading frames (smORFs) catalog (GMSC) by analyzing over 63,000 metagenomes and nearly 88,000 isolate genomes. This catalog, which is 20 times larger than previous efforts, annotates more than 964 million non-redundant smORFs across 75 habitats. They also developed the 'GMSC-mapper' tool to improve the accuracy of microbial metagenomic analysis. The study found that archaea have a higher proportion of smORFs than bacteria, suggesting a more complex role for small proteins in archaeal biology and highlighting the diversity of small proteins in microbiomes. This study significantly advances our understanding of microbial small proteins, particularly in archaea, by creating an expansive smORF catalog and a powerful new tool for metagenomic analysis. 🔬🧬A pioneering, national-level study, was conducted by the research group of Paleogenomics and Evolutionary Genetics of the IMBB -FORTH. Eighteen civilians from the village of Adele (Rethymno) massively executed on June 2, 1941, were identified, utilizing ancient DNA and genomic analysis techniques. The lab operates according to international standards, connecting modern scientific research with our culture and history, while creating new perspectives for the study of the past and for the promotion of the Greek cultural heritage. The recent study is a prime example of how modern biomedical research can be directly linked to our culture and history. It opens a new window into our past, allowing us to gain decisive insights into key historical events with a major social impact. The Decline of Evolutionary Theory: A Shift Toward Intelligent Design Humpback whales are among the largest and most magnificent creatures on Earth.
