Southeast Asia is seen as the destination for charities to catalyse climate action, as more major philanthropies plan to expand into the region than other parts of the Asia-Pacific, according to a report. The study by the World Economic Forum’s Giving to Amplify Earth Action initiative, Temasek Trust-backed Philanthropy Asia Alliance, and San Francisco’s ClimateWorks Foundation surveyed 24 global and Asia-based philanthropies.   Collectively, these 24 charities granted more than US$3.7 billion in 2022, including at least US$1.9 billion to climate and nature globally and US$580 million to climate and nature in Asia. In a world facing increasingly complex challenges, Social Foundations have become a pillar of hope for millions of people and their communities. However, as needs grow, so do the financial challenges they must navigate. In this paper, we explore an innovative approach to strengthening the financial capacity of Social Foundations, allowing them to not rely exclusively on sporadic donations. We immerse ourselves in a RECURRING DONATIONS PLAN that seeks to exponentially increase the income of the Social Foundations, thus ensuring the continuity and effectiveness of their programs towards the vulnerable population. Throughout these pages, we will discover how Social Foundations benefit from alliances with water bottling companies. Exceptional panel / a lot of good examples and case studies. Tasmania’s brand is all about niche and high quality so thinking about circularity and the repurposing of food related waste products, makes sense. For me it is about changing the narrative around waste handling/scrap yards. The are really important landuses for the circular economy and the regulatory authorities need to come along on this journey. It is really surprising what outcomes the idea of “reuse and repurpose” can lead to. And don’t forget space for testing and failure is needed!!! #regionsrising

What a great night at the Global Returns Project's event The Business of Giving: Environmental Philanthropy in Financial Advice! I particularly enjoyed Jack Chellman's facts on the chasm between client desires and advisor offerings when it comes to philanthropic giving. Only 28% of advisers feature questions about philanthropy in their fact-finding process! And yet, as Roy Coulson argued, philanthropy is in everyone’s best interest as “advisers can actually look after clients for longer if they offer them everything they need.” The Global Returns Project is a charity that aims to increase philanthropic giving towards climate mitigation efforts. Essentially, they bridge the gap between those who want to make a positive impact on the environment and organizations with the most effective approaches to address climate change. If funders want more punch for their pound, collaboration is key 💪 Sophia C. Cooke's new blog on the Funders Collaborative Hub, Association of Charitable Foundations shares findings from our new report and why collaboration between funders is key! 👉 “There are so many incredible environmental groups around the world and inspiring funders working hard to support them, but there are many areas of ineffectiveness in the relationships between the two. This ineffectiveness is costly for everyone.” 👉 Our new report, ‘Increasing the effectiveness of environmental funder-fundraiser relationships’, explores fundraiser challenges and shares six approaches to help combat them. 👉 One approach, collaboration, is urgent: “There is little coordination between funders, with huge variation among application and reporting criteria, processes and timelines. These all create administrative and financial stress for environmental groups and mean a large amount of time is wasted...” 👉 As one fundraiser responded: “Funders would get more bang for their buck by joining forces to issue larger grants and we would get access to larger grants which were aligned in terms of timing and with a single reporting requirement. I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Walsh’s insightful presentation at the STEP – Advising Families Across Generations Asia Conference on the emergence of Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) which underscores the growing significance of structured philanthropy. Her analysis of the drivers behind DAF development across various cultures and jurisdictions is particularly pertinent. Mauritius, with its robust legal framework and strategic position, is well-placed to establish a comprehensive DAF structure. As I discussed in my article on Mauritius as a hub for philanthropic ventures, our jurisdiction offers the right legal vehicles and a conducive business ecosystem for such initiatives. This guide offers vital insights and practical steps for donors, beneficiaries, and policymakers to navigate and enhance cross-border giving. 🌐 Key Highlights: 🔹 Tax incentives for donations to foreign NPOs available in 26 Member States. 🔹 Comparability-based tax incentives in 24 Member States. 🔹 Registration as a foreign-based NPO possible in 15 Member States. Despite the concepts of free trade and a single market economy in the EU, challenges remain for cross-border philanthropy; such as legal complexities and costs.
