Here at Black Cape, we work hard to help our clients solve hard problems. This past weekend, several of us helped solve a different kind of problem: running a Ragnar Events LLC Relay. 🏃♂️💼 120(ish) miles, 8 teammates, 2 days of pushing boundaries, cheering each other on, and overcoming every obstacle that came our way. It was more than just a race—it was a perfect metaphor for our workplace culture. At Black Cape, teamwork and collaboration aren't just buzzwords—they’re the foundation of everything we do. Ragnar emphasized things we already know and live every day: 🤝 The power of trust: Just like in the race, we rely on each other to deliver, whether it's handing off the baton or wrapping up a project. 🧠 Resilience: When the hours got long and the miles tougher, we dug deep, just like when challenges arise at work. We push through, together. 🎉 Celebrating each other: Every finish line—big or small—is a reason to celebrate. Just like we do at work, we lifted each other up, keeping energy high with positive reinforcement and support. Being part of this corporate Ragnar team reminded me why I love working here—success is a team effort, and together, we consistently go the distance. Oh, and did I mention we took third place in our division? That was the icing on the cake. We've already signed up not one but two teams for next year's race! Yet another reason why I love what I do, and the support we consistently receive from our Black Cape leaders, Al Di Leonardo, Abe Usher, Brian Poe, among many others. #RagnarRelay #Teamwork #CorporateCulture #WorkplaceWellness #Collaboration #Endurance #BlackCape

**Things I learned and enjoyed this week at F&G:** This was *Connection Week*, and it was packed with team connections, meetings, and exciting updates about the company. My top three takeaways: 1. **Building Connections with Co-Workers:** Connection Week is a great opportunity to deepen internal partnerships. I had the chance to get to know my colleague Andy Brewer and discovered we’re both huge history buffs! Listening to Andy’s stories about his trips to places like Boston and London was fascinating. I could listen to him for hours. It was great connecting with you this week, Andy! 2. **Investing in Our Community:** We received fantastic updates on how F&G is actively connecting with and supporting the community through United Way inspiring to be part of a company that truly cares about making a difference where we live. 3. **Learning How We Work Best:** During our team focus session, we shared insights into how we each work best. It was refreshing to see everyone take the exercise seriously and be open about their preferences. This reinforced how stellar our team is! A big thank you to F&G for investing in relationships and creating an environment where connections thrive. #ConnectionWeek #Teamwork #Community #UnitedWay #LearningAndDevelopment #Grateful #CompanyCulture #BuildingRelationships #Leadership #FandG #ProfessionalGrowth

Holiday Fun with a Purpose: Trivia About Coworkers! This holiday season, I’ve been playing a game that I plan to keep going well into the new year: Coworker Trivia! The idea is simple but impactful—challenging my team with trivia not just about holiday traditions but also about each other. It’s been a fun and engaging way to spark conversations, uncover shared interests, and get to know one another on a deeper level. In the fast-paced world of logistics (or any industry), it’s easy to focus solely on work, but building personal connections can make a huge difference in team dynamics and overall morale. As I challenge my team, I also challenge myself to learn more about the amazing individuals I work with every day. Let’s make 2025 the year we not only meet our goals but also strengthen our bonds. Some questions I asked? 1) Which two people are transplants to St. pete from the same area, but not from our corporate location? Answer: City was Charleston, SC 2) which month has the most birthday shared between office staff? Answer: April 3) how many people in the office have a twin? Answer: 3 Etc Have you ever tried something similar with your team? I'd love to hear your thoughts or suggestions for keeping this momentum going! #Teamwork #HolidaySeason #BuildingConnections #Leadership

We’ve all been through these nightmarish, one-time, ‘someone thinks it’s going to be the magic bullet that gets everyone aligned’ events. I’ve heard it from peers, and we hear it from customers all the time, essentially: “we don’t have budget for everyone to have daily coaching because we just spent 6 figures on a 2 day leadership retreat” (or something to that effect). As an L&D and People Strategy professional I’ve constantly had to fight the thought that some leadership conference or retreat is going to “fix everything” and is worth a giant investment, but the other 360+ days a year are sort of left with… not much. We’re not magicians, and a singular event is not a magic wand. Yes, team building can be valuable. Yes, retreats can be helpful. But we also need to think about what’s best to reinforce what we’re doing in the day to day, and not just a couple days a year for a select few in the org.
Not only will you not get left at the top of a mountain, but Cloverleaf costs so much less. I am always amazed at the lengths and $$ that companies are willing to spend on big team building activities for a select few but won't spend a few dollars per employee to provide a year of personalized coaching to everyone in the company. Next time, skip mountain climbing adventure (although it does sound fun), and instead give your team something they really need. https://lnkd.in/gq5fcykz

WHICH IS THE BEST TOWN IN THE UK, AND WHY EDINBURGH? It’s a funny question but a serious example of how many business and organizational conversations, including team meetings and brainstorming take place. The list of desired (or politically correct) answers, or conclusions, is always in front of us. The list of unchallenged ‘truths’, ditto. Diversity is always good (no, it isn’t), collaboration is always good (no, it isn’t). Transparency, authenticity and any other unquestioned traits are the desired ‘and why Edinburg?’ of our conversations. Part of the issue, just an angle, may be our discomfort with ambiguity. Most of our Western education is created around providing clear answers to specific questions. ‘The answer is X. what is the question?’ -that is often the mode thinking I’ve written before about the existence of a ‘market of conclusions’ where we go shopping and may even pick up a bargain here or there. There is even a Second Hand Thoughts market. Believe me, it's thriving and opens everyday including week ends. ------- 2025 marks 25 years of The Chalfont Project

🚀 Why Rewarding Your Team with Trips to Major Sporting Events Is Like Being on the Starship Enterprise 🏌️♂️⚾ Imagine your company as the Starship Enterprise. You've got Captain Kirk leading the way, Spock making the logical decisions, Scotty keeping things running smoothly, and McCoy reminding everyone they’re only human. Together, they boldly go where no team has gone before! But even the best crew in the galaxy needs time to recharge --- and that’s where a trip to a major sporting event comes in. Taking your top executives, employees, customers, and partners to events like the Ryder Cup is like beaming them down to the ultimate "shore leave." 🌍 It strengthens bonds, boosts morale, and makes them feel appreciated. Plus, nothing says "Thank you for saving the day!" like cheering for Team USA on the 18th green or soaking in the electric atmosphere of a Super Bowl. So channel your inner Kirk --- be bold and show your crew how much you value their contributions. Whether it's a match-winning putt or a touchdown in the last second, these moments create stories they'll tell for years. After all, even the Enterprise crew knew the importance of teamwork, celebration, and the occasional break from fighting Klingons! 🖖 Reward your team. Engage your partners. Energize your mission. And most importantly, Live Long and Prosper! 🏆✨

🎉 2025: Opportunities to Thrive! 🎉 As the calendar turned to 2025, many of us set our sights on goals for the year ahead. This reflective energy reminds me of why I founded Bluford Consulting nearly five years ago: to help businesses create work environments where ALL individuals can thrive. And when I say "ALL," I truly mean it. At Bluford Consulting, we believe in designing workplaces that are: ✨ Welcoming – Spaces where everyone feels valued and included. ✨ Inspiring – Encouraging creativity and innovation at every level. ✨ Rewarding – Recognizing and celebrating the contributions of every team member. We create a win-win strategy by fostering an environment where all team members are empowered to share their gifts and talents—stronger organizations and more engaged individuals. 💡 As we embark on 2025, I’d love to hear your thoughts: 👉 What are you doing this year to create engaging and rewarding work environments? Let’s inspire each other! ✍ 'Step into the zone of awkward team building and tough presentations – they do pay off' | Writes Helena Morrissey I recently surprised everyone who knows me by joining in an indoor skydiving “team-building” #activity at a company I chair. I should clarify that the indoor version is nothing like actual skydiving – instead of leaping from a plane, I hovered a mere few feet off the ground in a wind tunnel, aided by an instructor. Even so, I was well beyond my comfort zone, nervous about making a complete idiot of myself, especially in front of 25 #colleagues – most of whom I’d only met earlier the same day. But I am so glad I did it. My technique was lousy, but the satisfaction of overcoming my fear, combined with bonding with new (and in some cases, equally terrified) colleagues outweighed any embarrassment. #TeamBuilding antics aside, we need to be willing to step outside our comfort zone at work if we’re to #progress in our careers, whether we’re in our 20s or 50s. No one can really improve by staying cosy and comfortable – we need to explore and take risks, pushing out our (often self-imposed) boundaries. Read more 👇 https://lnkd.in/emXy4sFq

The Power of Culture: Celebrating Wins and Embracing Diversity I have one, two minute exercise that can change the trajectory of your company’s workplace, but before I can share, you’ll need some background: At RedRover, culture isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we live and breathe every day. One of the most important aspects of our culture is celebrating the win. And I don’t just mean big company milestones (though we love those too); I’m talking about celebrating every victory, whether it’s smashing a goal, nailing a presentation, or simply pushing through a challenging project. These moments matter because they fuel our drive and keep us motivated for what’s next. The real magic happens when we combine our diversity with a culture of celebration. The diversity within our team allows us to tackle challenges creatively, break through barriers, and come up with ideas that wouldn’t be possible in a more homogenous environment. Each win is shaped by the unique perspectives, skills, and backgrounds that everyone brings to the table, and when we win, we win together. We take a moment to recognize the hard work and collaboration that brought us to that point. It reinforces our sense of community and reminds us that everyone’s contribution matters, no matter how big or small. In the end, it’s not just about the results—it’s about the journey, the people, and the process that got us there. Celebrating wins is our way of acknowledging that the path to success is built by the diversity of our team and the strength of our culture. And that’s something worth celebrating every day. Which brings us back to that two minute exercise: Take two minutes—right now—and think of one recent win in your company. It doesn’t need to be anything major, just something that moved the needle, made a difference, or helped push things forward. Write it down in the comments below and then tag (or if they’re not on LinkedIn) write down the names of the team members who played a role in making that win happen. It could be one person or several, depending on the win. This won’t take long, but I promise you, it’s incredibly powerful. It strengthens your culture, reinforces the value of teamwork, and reminds everyone that their efforts are appreciated. I’ll go first. #CompanyCulture #DiversityAndInclusion #CelebrateTheWins #Leadership #RedRoverPack
