The Eurochild Children's Council is a group of 12 children and young people aged 13-16 from 12 European countries: Tiana (Bulgaria), Georgios Efrem (Cyprus), Leon (Croatia) Tuule (Estonia), Faidra (Greece), Abigel (Hungary), Amina (Ireland), Rhythm (Malta), Lucijan (Slovenia), (Dario) Romania, Oleksandr (Ukraine) & Arthur (Wales). They have been talking with MEPs this week about areas which are important to them. Children said: 1. One in four young people in Europe struggles with mental health. That's not just a statistic, these are my friends, my classmates. But when looking for help, we're often met with barriers and waiting lists. Mental health needs to be a priority in all child and youth policies, it is a right, not a privilege. 2. Violence is another concern for children. Nearly 40% of students are bullied. This makes us feel unsafe and stops us from learning and growing the way we should. We deserve better protection and the chance to feel safe. 3. Online and social media safety is very important for children. Too many children lack the required skils and knowledge to protect themselves on the internet: the responsibility of children's safety should not fall on children's own shoulders. 4. Climate change is affecting children drastically. Children have a right to healthy life, but "Is it truly possible to live a healthy life whilst our lungs are choking on polluted air and you're seeing nature being crushed all around you?" Children face the consequences of climate change most. The EU needs to be an example to the world. "The cost of climate action is much smaller than the cost of climate inaction." 5. Child participation is about listening to children as experts on their own lives. That's why it is critical to move beyond surveys and create more opportunities for children to engage directly with policymakers. This will lead to more inclusive, responsive and more effective desicions.
‘No more waiting, no more delay, time to act is here, now and today’ – Rhythm, 16 years old. On #WorldChildrensDay, the Eurochild Children's Council met with Members of the European Parliament to raise their voices on the urgent need to prioritise children’s rights across Europe and beyond. Their message is simple and clear: children are not just the citizens of tomorrow, the decisions made today shape their present and future and they must be part of the conversation. Watch our new video in collaboration with The Youth to find out more about their experience in Brussels to create a Europe in which children’s voices are heard, respected, and acted upon: https://lnkd.in/dxPUr7zK Roberta Metsola PULSE Foundation Национална мрежа за децата / National Network for Children The Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society Το Χαμόγελο του Παιδιού - The Smile of the Child Hintalovon Alapítvány Foróige Children's Rights Alliance Tako Rietveld FONPC Zveza prijateljev mladine Slovenije / Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth (SAFY)/ZPMS Children in Wales - Plant yng Nghymru

Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we remember the Lost Children and the Survivors of residential schools. We honour the resilience of Indigenous communities across Canada. ParticipACTION commits to supporting Indigenous communities through measuring and reporting on Indigenous physical activity, supporting Indigenous-led organizations and sharing Indigenous stories and imagery that honour First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities. We will work to advance the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and continue being open to suggestions from and consultations with Indigenous Peoples on how we can build better relations and continue working towards reconciliation. https://hubs.la/Q02RvwqQ0
