Markasbader Bisbabhramaṇ - https://lnkd.in/dAJDgiag The book Markasbader Bisbabhramaṇ (translated as World Travel of Marxism), authored by Dilip Majumdar and published by Nabajatak Prakashan, delves into the global journey and influence of Marxist ideology. At a time when Marxism’s relevance is both critical and challenged by the forces of market dynamics, the author emphasizes the importance of persevering in the exploration and practice of this ideology. The book discusses the global spread of Marxist thought, tracing its expansion through movements and revolutions influenced by the writings of Karl Marx, including his seminal work, Capital. By highlighting the historical and contemporary dimensions of Marxism’s propagation, the book serves as both a historical analysis and a reflection on its enduring significance in today’s socio-economic context.

The signals of history are very instructive. If we are to see the possibilities, then it is imperative to explore periods that reflect elements of our current world. Exploration is illuminating – but learning from the past is crucial. In his recent book, Fareed Zakaria provides signals from past revolutions - and holds a mirror to our current global moment. I highly recommend the book. https://lnkd.in/e_tgDsS3 #History #Future

My fourth book officially releases today! "Work Out Your Salvation" explores how markets contribute to or impede moral formation. I draw on theology, ethics, and economics, particularly attending to experimental economics. I argue that markets can be designed in various ways, and that we can design markets to be more likely to foster virtue or vice. Buy a copy here: https://lnkd.in/gfTFy-qi

This very elucidating book with title “Vienna - how the cities of ideas created the modern world” - hard to read and near to 400 pages - written by Richard Crockett, an ECONOMIST editor, and published in 2023, points excellently out how brains from Vienna shaped culture, business and economics in the world, mainly the US and UK. A short survey article, kind of an abstract of this book, had been published by THE ECONOMIST in its Christmas issue of 2016 under the title “How Vienna produced ideas that shaped the West” (likely also authored by Richard Cockett?): https://lnkd.in/dGpwHmdb #vienna #richardcockett #theviennacircle

Longest and hardest book I’ve ever read. Took me 9 months but what a journey it was ! No wonder it is considered one of the foundational work of modern economic thought. Besides immersing myself in ideas like division of labour, “invisible hand of the market”, mercantilism, free trade, colonial monopolies, the nearly 1000 page long book provided interesting insight into the 18th century world and the Enlightenment. I feel like my horizon broadened so much ! As an antithesis to this libertarian masterpiece I want to read Karl Marx: The Capital in the future however now for some time lighter literature will do. :)
