Leaders, Mother's Day is an excellent reminder that you are surrounded by incredible women who elevate your mission, culture, and impact, while caring for their families and communities. Yet women are still responsible for most of society's unpaid work, and are at greater risk for stress-related everything. We've been tracking work/life wellness in the Mom's Hierarchy of Needs, LLC research study, now with over 3,700 parents, since March of 2020. In our latest survey wave, 79% cite doing "terribly" or "not as well as usual" at self-care. Listen, I'm sure you're well aware that women with families have to care for their wellbeing and careers differently. But you can improve wellbeing for mothers in your organization. Today is World Mental Health Day. We are deeply concerned about the rising rates of mental health issues among our youth and adults. This worrying trend highlights the urgent need for comprehensive mental health support and policies. We are committed to proposing effective solutions to combat this crisis, like initiatives to identify early signs in schools, protecting digital well-being, and bridging gaps in child protection services. And thank you to all mental health advocates and activists who fight to break the stigma, lead by example, and inspire hope in every life you touch. "The S Word" is streaming on Amazon Prime Video. It's a documentary about suicide, support, sharing story, advocacy, and activism. Systems are broken, but each one of us can lead by example by simply listening, sharing, and normalizing talking about mental health. Notable statistics: 905 people died by suicide in the state of Wisconsin (latest report, 2021) 78 of those reported deaths happened in Winnebago County In the US, there are 1.3 million attempts each year, 112 die by suicide each day, 1 person every 12.3 minutes. You are NOT alone. 💖

Can we do away with the myth that supporting our child is the same as spoiling them?     We hear a lot of unsolicited advice about how to navigate tantrums. But not all of this advice is scientifically supported.     You’re not “spoiling” your child if you:    〰 Support them during meltdowns  〰 Comfort them when they cry  〰 Offer hugs or sensory support during meltdowns  〰 Wait on correction or consequences until after heated moments  〰 Respond to them based on their individual needs    Breaking cycles is hard. Promoting infant mental health offers a key to unlocking the potential of our nation - creating resilient, caring communities that are better able to cope with future trauma. This Infant Mental Health Awareness Week, we asking you to speak up for babies. All babies should be able to access specialist parent-infant relationship support if they need it. Every local authority should have a specialist parent-infant relationship team tasked with promoting infant mental health. Without offering such support, we risk children experiencing unnecessary suffering and emotional difficutlies that can escalate into mental health problems later on. This not only creates costs for the child and their family but also for society and public services later. Babies need action on infant mental health now more than ever. Investing in such support will reap rewards for our families, communities and services in the future. It’s time for action.
