Thanks to Cătălina M. for being on the show! Conversations about the human and workflow side of design systems are often really focused on how systems change how we work, but this conversation gets into how they change what we value. Check it out!

Listening to a podcast this morning, I heard a great quote by Tim Creasey, “If we design a technical change that nobody uses, we didn’t create any value [for our organization]. …How do we help our people engage, adopt, and use the solution?” I’ll add that implementation will be more successful with a thoughtful project scope, discovery, and design.

Here's the best description of design I’ve heard in a hot minute. Well, it's the one that I resonate with the most. But I do wonder if it’s a description of design at all? It’s by Kevin Richard who was talking a few months ago on the Experience Designed Podcast. Here it is in all its brilliance! “[Design is]Having a really deep understanding of a situation. And using that to design the way I will approach the issue. And adjusting in real time, all the time. You have a plan, but the plan is not the execution itself. It’s the kind of outcome or the vision you want to bring. And you're ready to change all the means, all the processes. All the stuff. All the language you use. In order to go in the right direction.” Boom! Love it. It’s how I’ve been working for more than a decade, which I alluded to in my post yesterday. But it's also like Kevin pulled the thoughts out of my head. It feels more like running around OODA loops than passing through a double-diamond. Yet I wonder how recognisable this description is to other designers. And whether it’s a meta-process many outside of design might also recognise? Or even claim as their own. What do you think? #designpractice #designprocess #innovation

Ditch the conference room, close your laptop, and go for a (Gemba) walk! In our recent podcast episode, Michael Daehne and Lynda Garcia SHRM-SCP talk about the importance of going where the action is happening - also known as a Gemba Walk - when leading major change initiatives. While Zoom calls, process flows, and whiteboarding sessions can be useful mechanisms for architecting new business processes and user experiences, there's simply no substitute for walking the walk alongside your frontline employees, interacting with customers, and seeing firsthand how value is created and where pain points stand in the way. Whether you're in the early stages of a transformation initiative or you've worked the same place for 30 years, we're confident you'll get value out of a Gemba walk: a new perspective, a renewed appreciation for the work your colleagues do, or maybe even an "aha!" moment that informs your corporate strategy. So, go for a walk (and listen to our podcast on the way)! #flexpoint #GembaWalk https://lnkd.in/gTCPNiHk
