As SailGP Season 4 comes to a close (congratulations Spain SailGP Team!), I have made the difficult decision to also close out my time at SailGP after an incredible five and a half years as Global Communications Director.
I am extremely proud of the integral role I have played in the growth of the league from its inception to where it is today. During my tenure, SailGP has gone from a set of ideas on paper to a purpose-driven global league with over 1 million social followers, a significant (& growing) global broadcast audience, an amazing partner roster, sold-out events, countless mainstream media hits, numerous prestigious industry awards and many, many more achievements!
Since the launch in 2018, the league has grown from 6 to 10 teams and 5 to 13 events – which will grow again next season to 11 teams and 14 events – across multiple international markets with varying challenges in each that comms has been at the very centre of!
From building our brand and reputation from scratch, devising the league’s global comms strategy, launching the world-first Impact League, developing the messaging for the first Race for the Future takeover, creating a B2B comms strategy and thought leadership program to delivering multiple Grand Prix events (34!), launches, announcements and awesome partner & talent activations, it has been a busy half-decade. During this time, I have also built a global comms team and network across all of our event markets and ten team markets who I simply couldn’t have done this without.
It has been an amazing ride and when I think back to those early months and years versus where the league is at today, it is quite unthinkable and I am very proud of what has been accomplished in this time – by some incredible people – and the part that I have been able to play in the infancy of the league, it's rapid growth and getting to this point today.
I have had the privilege to work with some exceptional talent around the world and in-house at SailGP. To all my SailGP colleagues, the teams and everyone I worked with, thank you for the awesome opportunity, camaraderie and can-do attitude and wishing you the best of luck for the exciting announcements ahead (wink wink) and future seasons as you take the league to the next level.
Don’t ask me what is next because – for once in my 20+ year comms career – I don’t know! But, it's time for a new challenge and following an early summer holiday at sea to recharge my batteries, I am now back and excited to seek out my next opportunity so hoping my LinkedIn network will help me out…
Long-term or short-term, I can add some firepower to your existing team / projects, build and run new teams, devise compelling comms strategies (internal and external), help with storytelling, creative campaigns, media relations, launches, event organisation, athlete & talent management, reputation management & crisis comms, partner strategies, and much, much more. So please get in touch!
