No offense to Lauren or her team. But this is another testimony as to why people remove themselves for working for professional sports organizations. They simply cannot survive. $45,000 to live in California & in proximity to LA is practically impossible. It's also wrong based on what the organization is. People who work for teams give up so much of their time and efforts for so little in return. It's great to see the people in the comments understand their worth. Working for a professional team is a great experience and you gain so much from it that is irreplaceable. However, it is extremely wrongful how they are compensated across the board. Less pay, but in exchange you get free tickets and team association isn't a fair trade when the real world cost more to live in... Also, those free tickets rarely get to be used by you because you're working the games & events not enjoying your "company benefit". I love pro sports, I love the people I've met who work for professional sports organizations, they give their all & love what they do. But almost all of them are underpaid and they all deserve a lot better.

Well anyway, can whoever gets this job please get me those Vans I asked for when I presented the team with their Communications Team of the Year Award at PRSA Los Angeles's #PRisms? What was that campaign?! It's going to drive me nuts. https://lnkd.in/gU-9dfQw

It's time for something new. In the next two weeks, I'm going to be leaving my role as PR Manager at Hallam. What's next? I have no idea. But the hunt for the next step in my career has already started! So, this post is a little bit about me and what value I can bring to your business... I'm Tom 👋 and I have worked in in-house and agency public relations and communications for the last decade after deciding my original dream of covering football around the world wasn't for me. In that time, I have developed and executed strategies that land top-tier coverage and grow awareness across a vast B2B and B2C portfolio. Aside from delivering great results, I'm a people-first manager and I get the biggest kick and enjoyment out of leading teams, developing offerings, and scaling business. Away from all things public relations and communications, I'm a writer at heart and can be found tapping away on my latest novel or sipping a vanilla latte in a Costa with a book in hand. Well, when I'm not on toddler duty, anyway. If you think I can help you with your public relations and communications offering, I'd love to hear from you - whether you're in-house or an agency. My DMs are open and it'd be great to have a chat. We all know LinkedIn prioritises posts with an attachment, so we will end with a photo of me that I like. Trust me, as someone who considers themselves to be the least photogenic person on the planet, these are few and far between… #publicrelations #publicrelationsjobs #communicationsjobs

I want to share a story about returning to work after the birth of my first child. I always had a feeling I would be the kind of mom who would return to work sooner than most. The truth is, I really enjoy working. I have always known this, but I became even more keenly aware of it after my business was acquired a few years ago. When I exited, I took a partial sabbatical while I considered my next move. This was hard for me. I don’t always thrive in stillness, but years of burnout and disillusionment with my profession had taken their toll. I needed a break badly. In all honesty, I never expected to return to the industry. I explored a few new and different opportunities, but they never quite hit the mark. It wasn’t until I was pregnant that I started to think about a return to the PR industry. This was an unexpected development, but as time went on, I started to gain clarity on the things that really mattered to me in my work: freedom, collaboration, creativity, and leadership. For the first time, I began to miss the field I turned my back on. About six months after my daughter was born, I was hungry to get back to work. I really enjoyed my maternity leave, but I knew that I needed some variety in my days and that being totally off work for much longer would make me antsy. I needed something just for me, something that would fill my cup and help me be the best possible parent. I started to get a sense of the job market. I applied for a few in-house roles for which I was extremely qualified and anxiously mentioned I was returning from maternity leave in my cover letters. I didn’t get a single response. I was already nervous about returning to work after an extended break, and this didn’t help. I spoke to a few trusted advisors, colleagues and friends to get their insight. At the urging of Tak Yukawa, I started to think about returning to agency life. He introduced me to Maxine Jakubke at PUBLiSH Partners. One email introduction all of a sudden became an incredible offer that included working remotely, a gradual return to entry, and the chance to do the meaningful work I craved. More importantly, it gave me the gift of being a present mom for my daughter, which is undoubtedly the greatest perk of all. I am so grateful to work for a company that celebrates women and mothers. Imagine the world today if every workplace did the same. I hope that world is one my daughter gets to experience in her lifetime.

🎉 Celebrating 8 Amazing Years in PR & Comms! 🎉 As I reflect on this wild, rewarding journey, I want to share 8 Takeaways that have shaped my public relations, communications, and marketing career. These insights may resonate no matter what adjacent industry you're a part of. Let me know your thoughts—and drop your own insights in the comments! 🌟 1. Network laterally Titles don't define impact. Connect with incredible creatives regardless of what is on their business card. You never know what influence they may have on your journey. 🌟 2. Celebrate your peers Give props to your colleagues and friends—when it's your turn, the energy will be phenomenal. 🌟 3. It's okay not to know "I'm not sure, but I'll find out for you" is my superpower. Being resourceful beats pretending to know it all in any industry. 🌟 4. Track your wins As publicists, we love to spotlight others. It's easy to get lost in the amazing work we do. I use a Google Doc to log wins, big or small, personal and professional, and reflect on them at the end of the year. Just because we make it look easy doesn't mean it's not magic. 🌟 5. Relationships > Press releases PR isn't only about pitching and well-crafted press releases—genuine connections are at the heart of what we do. Reach out to journalists, shout out their work, sign up for their newsletter, and build bridges beyond the inbox. Journalism is a thankless role, and the news cycle changes quickly. 🌟 6. Use your network Your community is your lifeline. Lean on group chats, social media groups, peers, and mentors. We are only as strong as our partnerships. Sometimes, it's as simple as sharing a relevant meme that no one else can relate to but your peers. 🌟 7. There's no glass ceiling Public relations is expansive, and our skills are transferable, allowing us to have endless possibilities. You go as far as you think you can. Dream big because this field is limitless. 🌟 8. Always say thank you Via card or call: It's a good life rule to make people feel appreciated. People remember who made them feel seen. What's the best lesson you've learned in your career?
