Causes or Cures Episode 205: I sat down with Dr. Hooman Allayee and James Hilser to explore their new research on the lasting impact of COVID-19 on heart health. They reveal surprising findings about how COVID—especially in those who were hospitalized—elevates the risk of severe heart issues long after recovery, even years down the road (at least 3 years, which stunned me!!) The conversation dives into the connection between blood type and post-COVID heart risk, and the researchers share their theories on why blood type matters. Plus, they discuss the implications of these findings for people, public health and clinical practice, offering important recommendations for how the public health and medical community should respond. For BAME communities, language barriers and health inequalities increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. Miscommunication leads to poor medication adherence, resulting in preventable complications, hospital admissions, and financial strain on the NHS. At Written Medicine, we tackle this by providing bilingual medication labels and clear instructions, helping patients understand their treatments and manage their conditions. This improves health outcomes and reduces the burden on the NHS. Let’s Use Heart for Action by advocating for clear communication, better adherence, and a more inclusive healthcare system.
Today is #WorldHeartDay and Written Medicine is proud to stand with the global community under the theme Use Heart for Action from 2024-2026. This campaign is about more than just raising awareness—it's about empowering individuals to take proactive steps in caring for their heart health and advocating for systemic changes in cardiovascular care. Cardiovascular disease continues to disproportionately affect BAME communities, where challenges like language barriers, lack of access to resources, and health inequalities create additional risks. At Written Medicine, we are dedicated to breaking down these barriers by offering bilingual medication labels and clear instructions to improve adherence to life-saving medications. Together, we can ensure that everyone—no matter their background—has the tools and information they need to manage their heart health. #WorldHeartDay #UseHeartForAction #hearthealth #healthinequalities #medicationadherence Prof. Bola Owolabi, MRCGP MFPH(Hon), FRSPH David Webb Gisela Abbam FRSA Partha S Kar Helen Williams Simon Ray Dawn Adamson

🚨 Big News from the International Misophonia Foundation! 🚨 We've officially submitted a proposal to the World Health Organization (WHO) to classify Misophonia as a discrete disorder in the ICD-11. This is a major step toward gaining recognition, improving research, and ensuring better care for those living with this often-misunderstood condition. Our proposal is based on cutting-edge research highlighting Misophonia's neurophysiological basis and supported by a petition signed by over 1,000 individuals. These powerful testimonials shared the real-life challenges of living with Misophonia and the urgent need for its formal classification. We believe this is just the beginning. Moving forward, we call for greater collaboration among researchers, advocates, and organizations to unify efforts and improve understanding and treatment. Together, we can make a difference! 💙 Read the full proposal here: https://lnkd.in/gRazUN55 #MisophoniaAwareness #ICD11 #MentalHealthMatters #Misophonia
