Some of the most practical tips I've ever received about evaluating my video-format work with an accessibility lens were this: 1. Play your video with your eyes closed - do you still understand what's going on? 2. Next, play the video with your ears covered - do you still understand what's going on? This was part of my mental checklist before I approved anything in post-production and once things were uploaded in the digital space. Small actions we can take that make a big difference for a lot of people. This is something I feel would be relevant for live theatre and makes me wonder how many theatres have closed captioning and audio description devices available for their audience.

Van Halen doesn't eat brown M&Ms. 🎸🚫🍫 Typical diva-rockstar behavior, or a strategic ploy? 🤘🤔 ➡ While maintaining his fame with hits like "You Really Got Me" and "Jump," Van Halen's lead vocalist provided a detailed list of directions for every show. 🎤🎶 ⚡Because the band pushed the limits of performance entertainment with high-powered electronics, pyrotechnics, and large crowds, an extensive breakdown was provided to venues outlining the exact specifications needed to ensure staff and viewer safety in all departments. 🎆 👇 👇 👇 🍬Buried in this comprehensive list was a demand for all brown M&Ms to be removed from the bowl of candy in David Lee Roth's dressing room. 😅 🔍Spotting a brown M&M meant the crew would have to diligently re-check all lighting, sound, and special effects needs—and often face a moderate outburst of rage. 😠 Read all the directions when given a task—there’s usually a reason! 📋✅ #AttentionToDetail #DetailsMatter #FollowTheDirections

For a great example of the power of the pause, borrow from David Tennant. Hosting duties at an awards ceremony is fraught with tension. Will the jokes land? Will the audience laugh? Will a Hollywood star stride up and slap me? BAFTA have posted Tennant's opening monologue here, and while I'm not suggesting you fill your next business presentation with gags and a sparkly jacket, do remember the power of the pause. There are moments here (like the AI joke halfway through) where nerves combined with audience silence would push a lesser presenter to rush onwards. It takes guts to pause. Silence is scary. But the reward is huge - it gives your audience a chance to 'get it'. And that's true of any message, not just jokes. It also makes the presenter look comfortable and confident. So raise your presenting game from amateur to A-list - embrace the silence! #publicspeaking #presenting https://lnkd.in/et4_TzCB
