~Secrets of Coffee Flavor Notes~ Have you ever wondered why some coffees taste fruity while others have rich, chocolatey undertones? The answer is within the coffee plants themselves! The Varietals matter: Like different grape varieties in wine, different coffee plant varietals produce unique flavor profiles. Growing conditions: The environment where a coffee plant grows plays a crucial role. Factors such as soil type, altitude, rainfall, and sunlight influence plant development and flavor notes. Floral & fruity notes: Some plants naturally produce beans with vibrant, floral, and fruity notes. These coffees are often grown at higher altitudes where the cooler temperatures slow the maturation process, allowing complex flavors to develop. Rich & bold flavors: Other varietals yield beans with deeper, richer flavors like chocolate, nuts, and spices. These plants often thrive in regions with soil compositions that enhance these taste profiles. At Badge Brew, we meticulously source and roast our beans to highlight the unique qualities of each coffee plant, delivering an elevated coffee experience in every cup. What is a single origin coffee? "Single Origin" refers to coffee beans sourced from one specific country, region, or even a single farm. The benefit of single origin coffees is the ability to taste the unique flavors and characteristics from that region, shaped by conditions like coffee variety, processing method, soil, climate, and altitude. My best comparison here for those that may be newer to this concept is to think about terroir in wine. Conversely, a coffee "blend" typically refers to coffee beans sourced from mutliple countries or regions, blended together to achieve a specific flavor profile. There are some common misconceptions when it comes to single origins though. When comparing to blends, single origins are not necessarily: • better • more expensive • higher in caffeine • roasted differently It's all about personal preference, and your interest in tasting specific characteristics of different coffees. So which did you drink in your cup this morning... a blend or a single origin? Let me know in the comments below!

Altitudes of Coffee ⛰️ Altitude significantly impacts the characteristics of coffee, influencing its flavor profile, growth rate, and overall quality. Coffees grown at higher altitudes typically exhibit more vibrant and pronounced flavors. They often have higher acidity, which can present as fruity or floral notes. In contrast, lower-altitude coffees tend to have a fuller body with earthy or nutty flavors and lower acidity. Great chat with Luke Kelly-Wilmot, Jake & Rob Coughlan recently in there studio ✅
