Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk finally revealed the electric vehicle maker's long-awaited driverless robotaxi on Thursday night, alongside a surprise — a larger autonomous Robovan designed to transport a lot more people. After a nearly one-hour delay, attendees at the “We, Robot” event in Los Angeles were given an up-close introduction to two of Tesla's latest creations, a key strategic focus for the EV pioneer. Musk arrived via the robotaxi — dubbed "Cybercab" — which featured a Cybertruck-like light bar in the front, an small angular profile, scissor-like doors, and a minimalist interior. The Cybercab appeared to navigate the Warner Bros. Discovery Studios closed-course lot on the way to the event stage. Initial response on Friday morning showed investors wanting more, with the stock down over 5% in the premarket. Tesla revealed its vision for the future of transportation at the "We, Robot" event in Burbank, California. The much-anticipated self-driving taxi, or Cybercab, was showcased alongside 30 autonomous Model Y cars. With no steering wheels or pedals, these vehicles are expected to be 10 times safer than human drivers. CEO Elon Musk announced production would begin by 2026, with a price tag under $30,000. This technology promises to reduce parking needs in cities and reclaim time for passengers. Tesla also made strides with the #Robovan and the dancing #Optimus robot. The most interesting thing in tech: congratulations to Demis Hassabis, John Jumper, and David Baker for winning the Nobel Prize in chemistry, the second Nobel this week awarded to pioneers in AI. Second: tomorrow is Tesla's robotaxi event. Can they solve the problem of building driverless cars that are both safe and affordable enough to build? I am skeptical! Waymo has shown that the tech can work but not at a reasonable cost. Tesla has shown that they can build cars with some self-driving ability at a reasonable cost—but there's no way I would get in a robotaxi if it's only as good as Full Self-Driving mode is right now.

Tesla has unveiled its new robotaxi, called the "Cybercab," at an event on Thursday, October 12. The vehicle features two front seats and butterfly-wing doors. Unfortunately, investors argued that the design didn’t include space for more than two people or for luggage. As a result, Tesla’s stocks fell almost 9% last Friday, with investors uncertain about the market size for a two-seater robotaxi. Elon Musk, however, announced that the company would start working on the fully autonomous Cybercab by 2026, and he expects the price to be less than $30,000. In the same event, he showed a robovan, which would carry up to 20 people around town. There is no definitive date for this project either, which worries some investors as the competition for EVs is growing steadily. In the 1660s, this French philosopher came up with an invention that solved the problem of urban transport forever. It had nothing to do with Robo-taxis, flying cars, or Tesla Tunnels... Tesla just launched the future on wheels. At the "We, Robot" event, the Cybercab made its debut: • Completely driverless. No steering wheel, no pedals. • Promises to be 10x safer than traditional cars. • Designed to give us time back—no more focusing on the road. Imagine hailing a cab where your only job is to sit back, relax, and let the tech take over. Elon Musk spoke of the vision: more utility, less wasted time. It's not just a vehicle; it's a shift in how we think about travel. A move towards autonomy, freedom, and efficiency. Is this the end of the steering wheel era?
