This question never used to come up - how do I get a job that champions sustainability? I've spoken to students in schools and colleges for over 10 years now and the questions 14-17 year olds ask always blow my mind - in good and bad ways. Good - because of the curiosity they have and the go-and-get-it mindset that my generation didn't have in that way. Bad - because our education system does so very little to prepare people practically to get into the type of work they want to pursue and explore. Like I say, the question of sustainable job opportunities NEVER came up until the last year. Now, I hear it more and more and it's brilliant to see that championed by our future workforce. I met Jamie Burr during a speed networking event at World Travel Market (WTM) London last year and we hit it off straight away. Jamie is my go-to source of expertise and knowledge when it comes to sustainability in tourism so if you're also supporting young people, or want to understand how your career could progress in this area, give him a follow. One of Jamie's tips for standing out when it comes to employment opportunities is to have your own website or online portfolio, as well as maximising your personal brand on LinkedIn, both of which I hugely advocate for. So make sure you connect, he's one of our industry's trail blazers and we need people like him to create change.

After taking some time to think about how Hower Impact can best help address the sustainability careers and connection crisis, I'm excited to announce the next evolution of Connection Sections: Sustainability Career Advice. Instead of just being boring old me talking, these free monthly calls will now be open to both established and emerging corporate sustainability career professionals. You can come as a mentor or mentee to give and receive sustainability career advice. The format will be to join a virtual Zoom call moderated by myself, and we'll break into groups of mentors / mentees depending on topics of interest. Depending on how many folks show up, we'll self-organize accordingly.
