Professional Training and Coaching
So much more than career coaching. A community of professionals working through a structured, evidence based programme
About us
We help people figure out and plan what they want to do next in the world of work. We do this by taking people through a structured series of workshops and giving them access to an amazing network of professionals with whom to discuss options. We have a member resources page too with access to a wide range of content from videos from employers wanting to recruit them to exercises to complete to articles they can read. We hold ourselves to a high standard: we steer clear of inspirational quotes or platitudes. Our members expect rigour and intellectual stimulation. We are a growing not-for-profit community: most of our members work full time. The split is 60% female 40% male. We reject calls to hide age - it is afterall one of our greatest assets and we teach our members the valye of age and how to use it in an ageist market. All of our fees support the development and enablement of our work. We are very much impact based and prize purpose over profit.

Sustainability is the area most commonly cited by members as an area they want to explore for a career change. On Monday we have a double whammy. Thanks to Lucy Burton, we have Dr Karen Cripps coming to talk to members about how they can build their own skill sets within their current jobs to orientate them more towards building and crafting their sustainability profiles. After we have Judy Govindsamy from CARBON3 who are activity recruiting coming to talk to these members about opportunities at their fast growing scale up.

Thank you Symon H. for your huge amount of volunteering this week. No less than 4 workshops in less than two weeks to meet our waitlist demand. We don't do webinars - we do in depth, small group workshops so people can ask questions and get value. Our member resources area means you can get on with content and start making changes today. From Jan 1st, our prices go up to £89 (yes for the whole year and yes, we are not commercial. We are non profit). #linkedinworkshops #masterclass

You are what you eat and as you get older, maybe there are more things we can do to manage our health through our food. In this session on Wednesday, Clemence Cleave RNutr will come to chat to our members. It's a 'hot' topic - we have 24 registered! https://lnkd.in/e_AryZXt

If you're free Monday after work .. and you're interested in planning for the demographic shift that is the ageing workforce, you might want to come along: https://lnkd.in/eUihejqx I'm speaking as part of a panel, but if I have my way I'll get you meeting to and talking to different people interested in this area. It's great the The RSA (The royal society for arts, manufactures and commerce), OECD - OCDE Saga plc. ProAge.org are also all putting in their time, sharing the space freely to enable the conversation to happen.

This podcast episode by the Financial Times is less than 20 mins. In it, Isabel Berwick interviews Viv Groskop and Lucy Standing CPsychol, AFBPS, CPBP, MSc, BSc It covers: - Why people mid life leave the workforce - What organisations may need to consider when adapting to the ageing workforce - What employees want It's done with humour, stories and editing skill that make this worth your time and a listen. The title talks more about women, but we actually cover issues affecting men and I see this as a wider issue not a gender one. It's a weekly podcast. There are some absolute gems in there. Definitely worth following. #careerchange #careerdevelopment #ageingworkforce #longevity

For those of you who’ve not listened to the ‘Working It’ podcast, it’s a brilliant series. Each episode 15-20 mins with some amazing guests such as Arthur C. Brooks and Dr Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic - a couple of personal heroes! This episode discusses why people leave organisations in their 50’s and what organisations can do about it. I know many of you will have thoughts, ideas and suggestions. It's me and Viv Groskop in this episode, but I know many people working in this space who have valuable thoughts to add: Catherine Sermon WOMEN RETURNERS LTD Sarah Taylor Phillips Dr Lucy Ryan Deborah Gale Victoria Tomlinson FRSA Lyndsey Simpson Mike Mansfield Robert Baker If you're interested in this topic please have a look at what some of these other organisations are doing and saying. I'd also love your take?

Member feedback today: "Following the Age Is Your Asset workshop this morning, I updated my personal statement on my CV and sent it to a recruiter. He messaged five minutes later to confirm a call, I've just spoken with him and he said my CV was 'the most accessible CV' he had ever seen'! Wow! Now to work on my supporting statement for the job... fingers crossed. Our fingers are crossed too! Well done Marcus Lamont FCIDP for leading the workshop 👏

Looking at the data on people intending to stay in their jobs, do you think we chose the wrong demographic?! Even though much fewer people are exploring their options relative to their 25-35 peers the challenges and insights we have from working with the 45+ age groups means we are well placed to add real value. Just in case anyone misses this, I’m posting here too for maximum pride reach! 🤣
I help people and organisations to embrace the ageing population. Co-Founder Brave Starts. Chartered Psychologist.
Whoop!! On Wednesday night I was awarded Honorary Member of the The Association for Business Psychology. To be clear (and for the absence of any humble bragging doubt), this is a big deal. Each year, 2-3 people are nominated by their peers for this. It’s a reflection of contribution to the profession. There are less than 100 of us. To say I’m proud and very happy to have received this is an understatement. I am going out tonight to celebrate properly and do this award some justice 😊 I also want to congratulate Dr Stewart Desson and Joy Maitland MBE for their recognition. A huge thank you to Clodagh O'Reilly who recruited me into the ABP, Claire Lish the current chair, Dr Dawn H. N. current vice chair and Steve Apps and Ben Williams - two chairs I enjoyed greatly working alongside. To list everyone I admire and enjoyed working with would take far too long. All I will say is you know who you are. Thank you.
