Grayson Miller writes about remote operations for healthcare and the benefits and costs of remote operations. The pandemic forced every industry to go remote, but there may be some benefits to keeping aspects of healthcare that way, especially concerning costs. It makes healthcare more accessible for patients who either are unable or unwilling to go in person to receive care. The main challenge is the limit on different kinds of treatment with home health. What can we do? As healthcare leaders, we must find the balance but always keep patients' needs at the forefront of our decisions. #Healthcare #HomeHealth

📢 Call to action for business leaders, healthcare benefits leaders and healthcare innovators Please join me in signing this broad stakeholder letter to urge Congress to take immediate action to extend the provision that allows employers to offer telehealth services pre-deductible (i.e. at no cost to employees). This flexibility is set to expire on 12/31/24 and is incredibly important to maintain access to care via telehealth, which has proven so critical for patients needing care that is hard to access in person, whether due to shortages of local specialists, long distances from providers or situations where symptoms or transportation barriers make in-person care impractical. I personally cannot think of a single area of healthcare that isn’t facing capacity issues. For an in-person #gastroenterology consult, wait times are 79 days in Charlotte, 114 days in Philadelphia, 186 days in Boston. Patients feeling debilitating symptoms cannot wait that long and often end up in the emergency room, most of which are already overwhelmed. Without an extension, millions of employees will face a new financial barrier to the care they need…and many will instead seek out emergency room care or delay care, leading to even higher cost for their employers and plan sponsors. ✍ Please sign on to this broad stakeholder letter (or one of many others from like it) asking Congress to act before the year ends to ensure this telehealth flexibility continues: https://lnkd.in/efjkspaM ⏰ The deadline to sign is Monday, November 11, 2024. 📨 Please share this link with other stakeholders, employers, and leaders in organizations that would like to support this effort. It takes 2 minutes to fill out on behalf of your organization. #TelehealthIsHealth #Telehealth #VirtualCare

I strongly encourage anyone/everyone who cares about equitable access to high quality and convenient care, and driving down the total cost of care to read below, read up on this issue, and sign on with your support. We all learned/proved during covid that so much impactful healthcare can be delivered virtually, that many patients actually prefer the experience and convenience, and for complex models like multidisciplinary GI care...it is the only way to be able to efficiently deliver this care at scale. And while we have also seen high deductible health plans give consumers more flexibility in their spend, we also know that many delay or avoid necessary care as a result of these high deductibles, and end up driving higher overall healthcare costs. Plan sponsors should continue to have the flexibility and choice to waive and cover member cost share for telemedicine, especially in areas where we have proven to lower total cost of care by doing so (as we have at Oshi Health). Please consider signing on and sharing with your network.

Healthcare, in general, is facing a workforce shortage, and senior healthcare is no exception. And with the incoming "Silver Tsunami," it's more important than ever that we have a stable senior care workforce. Luckily, integrating new technologies can make the lives of senior care staff easier in a few key ways. "For employees, it can reduce burnout by helping with specific, remedial tasks... In rural communities especially, it could help to check in on more patients while reducing travel time. When adopted thoughtfully and coordinatedly, technology can improve the quality of care for residents," says Mike Roach. I completely agree—not only can it help reduce workers' burnout, but it can also streamline care, which benefits both staff and patients. #SeniorCare #SeniorCareStaff #SeniorCareTech
