It's impossible to overstate the importance of soil health in an agronomic system. Soil structure describes how soil particles (sand, silt, clay) are arranged into aggregates, which in turn influence all aspects of plant growth and system resilience, including nutrient cycling, water retention, root development, erosion resistance, and microbial diversity. The purpose of soil testing in #Agricultuture is to measure soil health parameters such as nutrients, water, pH, conductivity and soil micro organisms to determine the fertility of the soil, and get recommendation on the most suitable crop to cultivate based on their land data. The test is also done to determine the presence of the necessary conditions needed for plant growth and development. The soil test result reveal the necessary adjustments that needs to be done to precisely apply in the right proportion to enhance crop growth.

Did you know? The lifespan of soil microbes varies greatly depending on their type and environment. Bacteria: Live for hours to days but can survive years in dormant states. Fungi: Active for months; spores can last for years. Protozoa & Nematodes: Weeks to months in active forms, longer in dormancy. Factors like moisture, nutrients, and soil composition play a key role in their survival. These microbes are essential for soil health and plant growth! 🌾 At Living Water Agriculture, we support soil ecosystems to thrive naturally. Let's work together to save soil! 🌍 #SoilHealth #SustainableFarming #LivingWater #ncresco #regenerative

Invasive phragmites is an aggressive plant that can outcompete native species for water and nutrients. Biochemicals are released from its roots into the soil to hinder the growth of surrounding plants. Its effects on agriculture and crops can lead to economic losses. It also forms monocultures, which can affect property values and raise aesthetic concerns. For more information on invasive phragmites, click here: https://bit.ly/3FvCVNf

Fertilisers are used in agriculture to provide extra nutrients, particularly nitrogen and phosphorus, for good crop yields. However, excess nutrients can degrade neighbouring ecosystems, pushing aquatic and land ecosystems past #TippingPoints. The Earth Commission’s explainer brief on nutrients tackles the challenges of excess or lack of nutrients, detailing how #SafeAndJust boundaries for nutrient inputs into the Earth system have been devised.
