🌍 Are biodiversity credits the key to slowing down species loss? 🐾 With an alarming decline in average wildlife populations since 1970, it’s clear we need innovative solutions. While 196 countries have pledged to reverse biodiversity loss by 2030, a staggering funding gap of $700 billion remains*. Could biodiversity credits be the answer to mobilizing private sector funding for conservation? 🤔 Join the conversation! What are your thoughts on the effectiveness of biodiversity credits? Can they truly make a difference in the fight against species loss? Check out the full article in the comments! 👇 *Source: The Nature Conservancy #Biodiversity #Conservation #Sustainability

CFES #PartofThePlan International Day for Biodiversity 2024 We contribute to offsetting negative impacts on biodiversity due to development activities through Community Based Forest Conservation. The protection of pangolin habitat in the Durian Rambun Village Forest, under the Ecosystem Services Incentive Program to Support Community-based Forest Conservation, is a testament to CFES' role in biodiversity restoration. The International Day for Biodiversity campaign is the perfect opportunity to maintain momentum to protect and restore nature, prosper nature, share benefits equitably, and invest and collaborate for nature. CFES will continue to strive to not only maintain momentum, but also be #PartofThePlan for change. #BiodiversityDay #PartOfThePlan #ForNature UN Biodiversity

#KBAs identify the most important places for biodiversity 🦍 🐦 👉 The KBA criteria use quantitative thresholds to identify sites that contain significant populations of threatened or geographically restricted species, have high ecological integrity, or provide important connectivity. Focusing conservation efforts on these globally important sites is crucial for halting extinctions and reducing #biodiversityloss, key goals of the Global Biodiversity Framework.🌿

NEW PAPER: Protected Area Downgrading, Downsizing, and Degazettement (PADDD) is increasingly undermining biodiversity protection on a global scale. Our global study reveals that the loss of protected areas is not compensated by their determined offsets or even when unrelated new protected areas are considered. Future planning of conservation areas needs to prioritize biodiversity conservation rather than solely focusing on area targets. #30x30 target #Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework Read the open access paper here: https://lnkd.in/gyj55GZ5 Special thanks to the coauthors Román Carrasco, James Watson, Edward Webb, and Song Ling Tan for their invaluable contributions.

WWF: Voluntary Biodiversity Credits Voluntary Biodiversity Credits (VBCs) are recognized in the Global Biodiversity Framework as one biodiversity funding mechanism to address financial gaps on nature conservation, halting, and reversing biodiversity loss. VBCs according to this article by WWF are not offsets, meaning they don’t compensate for the buyer’s environmental harms elsewhere. In this sense they are about doing good, and good alone. Rome wasn’t built in a day, equally VBCs need more time to get to the level of VCMs . It’s a matter of embracing this promising opportunity and have it piloted globally to understand the best way to implement it for the benefit of nature and people mostly indigenous people and local communities. #VoluntaryBiodiversityCredits #biodiversity #conservation More👇 https://lnkd.in/dXEH4rVE
