📖 A 2023 study published in the Equine Veterinary Journal provides valuable insights into how high-level competition affects stride and jumping characteristics in eventing horses. Key results show that blood lactate levels, a marker of fatigue, were positively correlated with the mean maximal strike power (the acceleration in the vertical axis) at jumps during the last minute of the course. This indicates that as horses become more fatigued, their strike power increases. 📈 However, this increased power was negatively correlated with the mean stride height over jumps, suggesting that fatigue reduces the height of the horse's jump. 📉 👉 These findings highlight the impact of fatigue on performance and emphasise the need for targeted training programmes to improve stamina and efficiency in eventing horses! #eventing #equestriansport #hosehealth

Did you know the quality of your arena can have a direct influence on the strain of the superficial digital flexor tendon (SDFT)? The SDFT is one of the most commonly reported causes of lameness, making arena maintenance an essential part of any rider's routine. It is recommended to leave a minimum of 72 hours between high-intensity training sessions (such as jumping or galloping) to allow the slow-healing SDFT sufficient time to repair. Source: O’Brien, C., Marr, N. & Thorpe, C. (2021). Microdamage in the equine superficial digital flexor tendon. Equine Veterinary Journal, 53(3), 417-430.
