We're delighted to have raised £265 at the dinner during our Annual British Tomato Conference last month, which we have now donated to to RABI to support the great work they do supporting people in the horticulture and agriculture industries who are in need. We don’t think you have to choose between donating smart and donating with your heart. Many people want to help end factory farming. However, the organizations that do the most to prevent the suffering of farmed animals often lack visibility and don’t always provide the same ‘fuzzy feeling’ as donating to, for example, your local shelter. FarmKind bridges this gap. We collaborate with experts to identify the most effective charities combating factory farming’s impact on animals and the planet. FarmKind enables users to split their donations between these expert-recommended, highly effective charities and their personal favorite causes. We provide a bonus on both types of donations, allowing donors to do the most good to combat factory farming while supporting causes close to their hearts. Our approach is inspired by Giving Multiplier. The work of the founders, Prof. Joshua Greene and Dr. Lucius Caviola, is really exciting. It suggests that this approach could not only significantly increase donations to truly effective charities but also lead people to feel both smarter and more empathetic about their donations. The response to my 2 previous posts about farmer suicide has been overwhelming! Thank you all for the support, shares and messages! There will be much more to come this summer about my journey from the depths of depression. I am also going to take the conversation in a few other directions and will be looking forward to the discussion that comes from each post. In case you aren't aware, I have been working to help farmers like me to heal. I get asked a lot, "how can I help support farmers?" Obviously, shopping with them is one way and I plan to highlight some of the farms we support starting later in this post and throughout the year. If you can't buy from them, making a donation is another way. Even $25 can help! If you can't help financially, how about donating labor? After that, get creative. Show up! Take a tour, attend a field day, write a letter to the editor or blog about what a wonderful farm it is. Share your skills with the farmer; maybe they need help with a website or something that you are good at. Most farmers struggle with isolation, so just getting to tell their story to someone, especially someone that believes they are making a difference, can really help. It is hard to put into words how important it is for them to feel validated for all the sacrifice they have made. I am get asked a lot by people looking for specific products so, as mentioned above, I am going to highlight here and in coming post, some of the farms that we support. Today's featured farm is #guardiangrains and farmHer DeAnna Lozensky. DeAnna sells heirloom flour and whole grain raised on their beautiful farm in North Dakota. They ship all over the country and even have an awesome Facebook page that allows you to follow along on their journey and even get new recipes! We understand animals are capable of experiencing positive emotions like joy and excitement. And we also know that they can feel fear, pain, and distress. Recognising animal sentience isn’t a purely theoretical or abstract concept. Suppose we accept that animals can feel pain and distress. In that case, we must take it as our responsibility to minimise experiences that harm animals like factory farming and the wildlife trade and entertainment industries. A small donation can do great wonders for animals. 🔥Gail Fuller full 💙support, and to all farmers doing the job🔥 ❣ No agriculture => no food => no culture => no humanity ❣ 📣 Farmers are contributing to feed millions of people during their whole lifes ! 📣WHAT A DIVINE & INCREDIBLE GIFT THEY ARE OFFERING TO ALL OF US. LETS REMEMBER IT EVERY TIME WE TAKE A BIT OF (SANE) FOOD...📣 📣On the top of which: let's go meet them, talk to them, reward them, organise us around them and support them any way we can. 📣Let's stop handing over our responsibilities to politics: they just care about having submitted by force (&/or finance) workers-farmers that they can tax. (the King's syndrome). 💭 Let's ask ourselves a very unusual question ⚡ ➡ Why do we, Humans, live in communities❓ Because like many other creatures on our Earth, we all consciously or unconsciously know that one cannot do it all alone. Ask that same question in the city areas, most people would either not understand what you mean, or may also not relate to the actual concept of "Community", or would look at you as if you were a crazy "hippy"... An incredible sign that we lost the link to our soils, our growers, our lands, and to what actually makes us Humans..! Then the 1st-and-foremost-most-important-thing for our "Culture" to be is "agri- culture", no AI or any other superficial topic. Let's take our responsibilities. We here at ATW80Fabrics are simply enamoured with Flocus and their efforts to build a whole ecosystem of goodness around their kapok textiles. In fact, cofounder Sara Cicognani alongside Mr. Iwan Nazirwan founded an entire non-profit foundation to catalyze their pro-social efforts and it is quite literally and figuratively a very sweet story. Here's a recap of our recent interview with Sara. "Flocus's non-profit, KRAF, works closely with local apiculturists (bee-keepers) during the blooming season of their kapok trees. Since the trees are quite tall, the beekeepers have devised special methods to position the hives high enough to reach the flowers. The bees not only produce honey, which serves as a valuable source of income for the beekeepers, but they also enhance the pollination of the trees, making them more fruitful. [And that's not all!] Randu honey (Randu is the Indonesian name for kapok) is quite rare and considered a delicacy in the market. It also has natural anaesthetic properties, particularly in soothing sore throats. [So here is an additional benefit from creating kapok forests.] In addition to collaborating with beekeepers, Flocus also implements silvopasture practices, allowing animals to graze freely among the trees, naturally fertilizing the land with their nutritious poop. In some cases, they also gift a goat to local communities that accept our tree donations, and thereby provide them with an additional source of milk for children and natural fertilizer. We really love Flocus and their holistic forward-thinking work. Follow their work: Flocus #atw80fabrics #Kapok #plantbasedfabric #Flocus #NaturalFabrics #EcoFriendlyFashion

Unlike cattle, Buffalo require several miles of fencing on a large acreage of land. As well as they are capable of jumping up to 6 feet, and in some cases, they have been observed jumping as high as 7 feet. It is imperative for ranchers to have the proper fencing to run their herd. Tanka Fund helps make that happen with your support. Visit the link in our bio and donate to our fencing campaign! 🦬 #TankaFund #BuffaloConservation #SupportNativeRanchers #WildlifePreservation #ProtectTheBuffalo #SustainableRanching #NativeAmericanHeritage #EcoFriendlyFarming #BuffaloFencingProject #ConservationEfforts #WildlifeProtection #SupportIndigenousCommunities #BuffaloRestoration #DonateForACause #WildlifeSupport #CulturalPreservation #IndigenousLandManagement #HelpSaveTheBuffalo #BuffaloHeritage #SustainableAgriculture #LandsLivesEconomies #Buffalo #Bison #TheReturn #NativeAmerican #ClimateRestoration #CommunityEmpowerment #EnvironmentalSustainability #BuffaloRanching #TankaImpact

It might shock people to learn that it costs more than $350,000 each year to operate our markets. From permit fees to portalet rentals, market expenses aren’t exactly the most exciting things to talk about; but the costs are significant for a market of our scale. To keep the market affordable for small-scale, local farmers, vendor fees cover only half of the costs to operate the market. Remaining expenses are funded through charitable contributions made by community members like you. We just learned we will be able to open our markets a month early — but we need your help to make it happen. Join our community of Green City Market Growers today with a monthly or one-time donation: bit.ly/gcmgrowers. If every person who reads this becomes a GCM Grower by giving $25/month, together, we could fully fund this work for the entire year before the season even starts. That’s less than $1 a day to build a more resilient, sustainable food system alongside our farmers. #greencitymarket #donate #sustainability #agriculture #farming #chicagostrong

Farmers, now is the time to think about Crop Gifting! 🌾 Gifting crops to a nonprofit you love can have greater tax advantage than post-sale cash donations. This is because federal, state and self-employment taxes are also not assessed on the value of the donated crop. Learn more in this short video ↓
