Day 2 at the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) in the French Quarter was about café au lait and beignets? Nope, cold brew coffee and yogurt! Sam Harrington took the stage as the last presentation and “food for thought” of the day to share Danone’s Decarbonization Menu. Like many companies Danone first committed to Science-Based Target and Sam figured out how exactly to meet those targets. With a broad product portfolio from beverages to baby food to my favorite Dannon yogurt, each different packaging format had a multitude of potential decarbonization pathways. Not only has Danone identified and modeled the most realistic and most radical potential packaging changes changes to achieve between 2020-2030 but to understand the carbon footprint reduction potential will and built what must be the most ambitious roadmap to a low-carbon packaging future. At Danone headquarters in Colorado, Sam built a retail “shelf of shame” at his offices to inspire further action on sustainable packaging. 👆🏼Seriously? How cool is this? Last week, Going Green Media visited us at Evolution Fresh to see how we create Trashy chips behind the scenes. Every year, Evolution Fresh produces 17.4 million pounds of pulp. As a 99.8% waste-free facility, most of this produce goes to cattle feed - save for what we're able to recover at Trashy.
