🏝️Discover the 7 projects selected through our Call for projects in the Mediterranean islands. As a reminder, in April 2024, we launched our second call for projects in the Mediterranean islands. Islands are particularly vulnerable to plastic pollution, which threatens their exceptional biodiversity and the living environment of local populations. 🔎 This punctual call aims at financing ongoing activities in the Islands up to 100k. These projects can be of various types: from reduction of the use, to data collection, awareness-raising, waste management, recycling, advocacy and the search for alternatives to plastic. They are part of a unique local context, which the project leader is familiar with. Our selection committee studied all the applications really carefully during the past months and we are happy to support 7 projects in 6 different countries this year. In partnership with : Fonds français pour l'environnement mondial (FFEM), MedWaves, SMILO - Small Islands Organisation Rezero - Fundació per a la Prevenció de Residus i el Consum Responsable, Mission Zero Academy, Mare Vivu, Milieukontakt Albania, Isotech Ltd, Active Citizens for Development association #Callforprojects #BeMed #Islands #plasticpollution #sustainability #Mediterranean

This week, EJF's Plastics Team is at #INC4 in Ottawa, Canada, joining some other great organisations all calling for an ambitious #GlobalPlasticsTreaty! #PlasticPollution is choking our planet – shockingly, every piece of plastic ever produced still remains in our environment, with the majority ending up in our oceans. The slow process of biodegradation means that plastic waste persists for centuries, breaking down into microplastics that disrupt the health of our ecosystems and threaten humans and animals alike. This penultimate round of negotiations is a critical moment and turning point in the establishment of a legally binding instrument to address plastic pollution. We clearly can no longer stick to the status quo – it's time for an ambitious and strong agreement.
GAIA's incredible members representing over 30 countries are on-the-ground at #INC4! We are calling for an ambitious #PlasticsTreaty that: ✅cuts plastic production ✅calls for a #JustTransition ✅ends #Wastecolonialism ✅protects human rights ✅prevents waste incineration and chemical recycling Get to know more about these experts and updates from the negotiations via our regional pages: GAIA Asia Pacific Alianza Global para Alternativas a la Incineración GAIA Zero Waste Europe #breakfreefromplastic #LessPlasticMoreLife #EnvironmentalJustice Break Free From Plastic Aliança Resíduo Zero Brasil Alianza Basura Cero Chile Alianza Basura Cero Ecuador Acción Ecológica Mx Taller Ecologista Environment and Social Development Organization - ESDO Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) BAN Toxics EcoWaste Coalition SRADeV Nigeria Centre for Environmental Justice And Development - CEJAD Nipe Fagio BIO VISION AFRICA (BiVA) - Uganda Centre for Earth Works (CFEW) Centre for Environmental Justice Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO) Greenpeace Southeast Asia Eco-Justice Ethiopia Greenish Foundation Ecology Center Hasiru Dala Plasticdiet Indonesia ECOTON WALHI International Alliance of Waste Pickers - GlobalRec groundWork

🌿 Transforming Waste into Value: VOW Wins Miljøringen’s Award We’re thrilled to share that the VOW project (Valorization of Organic Waste into Sustainable Products for Clean-up of Contaminated Water, Soil, and Air) has received Miljøringen’s Award for its innovative contributions to circular economy and environmental technology! Led by NGI and funded by the Research Council of Norway, the project demonstrated how organic waste—such as sewage sludge and residual wood—can be converted into biochar using pyrolysis. This biochar is a powerful material that binds pollutants, helping to remediate contaminated soil, water, and air. 🛠️ The project’s success is a testament to the collaborative effort of national and international partners, including Lindum, Scanship, SINTEF, and more. Special thanks to NGI’s team, including project leader Gerard Cornelissen, PhD candidate Erlend Sørmo, and researchers Gabrielle Dublet-Adli, Hans Peter Arp, Caroline Berge Hansen, and Maren Valestrand Tjønneland. Miljøringen recognized the project’s potential to tackle global environmental challenges with scalable, high-impact solutions. The results affirm that sustainable innovation is not just possible—it’s happening now! 📸 Pictured: Erlend Sørmo accepts the Gullspaden award on behalf of the project, alongside Miljøringen’s Chair of the Board, Randi Warland Kortegaard. #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #EnvironmentalInnovation #Biochar #ResearchForImpact Forskningsinstituttenes fellesarena (FFA) Norges forskningsråd

𝐒𝐄𝐖𝐈𝐓 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑-𝟐𝟒 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 At Nan Fung, we recognise that our business is deeply intertwined with the natural world. We embrace our responsibility to safeguard the environment and prioritise: • Energy Efficiency & Emission Reduction • Climate Adaptability • Resource Conservation • Waste Management • Biodiversity Conservation 🌍 Our Path to Net Zero: In February 2024, our science-based targets for the Hong Kong property portfolio were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), establishing long-term decarbonisation goals for the Group in line with the Paris Agreement. We are also committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. At the same time, to minimise the negative impacts of waste from our business activities, we conducted a tailored waste training session for over 70 tenants from AIRSIDE, The Mills, and 33 Des Voeux Road West, combining lectures with gamified experiences. A post-event survey indicated that approximately 90% of participants reported an increased awareness of waste management practices in Hong Kong. By staying abreast of regulatory updates and proactively exploring innovative technologies, we aim to partner with our stakeholders to embrace more sustainable practices, paving the way for a resilient future for all. 🔗Check out the full report here: https://bit.ly/47fnx7j #ClimateChange #Decarbonisation #Sustainability #NanFungGroup #SEWITReport #SustainabilityReport #TurningPurposeIntoImpact
