Today, we are sending a very clear message to the EU and its member states. Thanks to all colleagues who have helped us with this. Some are here: Fern NGO, BirdLife Europe and Central Asia, Rainforest Action Network, Estonian Fund for Nature (ELF), Friends of the Earth, Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland e.V. (BUND Bundesgeschäftsstelle), NABU e.V., Milieudefensie, European Environmental Bureau, Deutsche Umwelthilfe, Rettet den Regenwald e.V., Global Forest Coalition, Forum Umwelt & Entwicklung, FIAN Deutschland, Bergwaldprojekt e.V., Profundo, With the impending revision of the #EUBioeconomy Strategy on the horizon, 70 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have jointly issued a position paper today, advocating for a bioeconomy that upholds both ecological sustainability and social equity. The undersigned organizations emphasize that the focus of the bioeconomy strategy must fundamentally shift for this purpose. The current waste economy must be stopped. They assert that large-scale biomass imports from the Global South are not a viable solution. Moreover, the NGOs assert that waste and residues alone will not suffice to meet the future economy’s raw material requirements. In addition to these points, the NGOs call for genuine participation of citizens and civil society, urging for tangible resources to support their involvement, not just on paper.

**Brazil: A Green Economic Powerhouse** .... Brazil has remarkable potential to lead the global transformation towards a low-carbon economy, leveraging its abundant and diverse natural resources. This potential can be exploited across various fronts, from the expansion of renewable energies to innovation in sustainable technologies. Firstly, Brazil is a global leader in renewable energy production, with vast hydro, solar, and wind resources. Expanding the installed capacity of solar and wind energy can not only meet domestic demand but also position the country as an exporter of clean energy. This, in turn, creates opportunities for the development of new industries and generates local jobs in high-tech sectors. Moreover, Brazil's rich biodiversity and extensive forests offer a unique advantage in the bioeconomy. Sustainable management of forest resources and the valorization of biodiversity products can promote environmental conservation while generating income for local communities. Products like açaí, Brazil nuts, and essential oils already have established global markets and represent just the tip of the iceberg of possibilities. Another sector with great potential is agriculture, with the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices and precision technologies. Brazil can increase food production efficiency while reducing its environmental impact, for example, through no-till farming and crop-livestock-forest integration. These practices not only maintain the competitiveness of Brazilian agribusiness but also enhance soil carbon capture, contributing to global climate change mitigation efforts. Finally, Brazil has the potential to be a leader in the carbon-neutral industry by exploring the carbon credit market. By developing and implementing reforestation and emission reduction projects, the country can generate carbon credits that are tradable on the international market, providing a new source of revenue. In summary, the decarbonization of the economy is not only essential for meeting global climate change targets but also represents a strategic opportunity for Brazil to generate wealth and foster sustainable development. This transition requires effective public policies, investments in research and development, and strong collaboration between the public and private sectors. #climatechange #climatecrisis #earth
