As debates heat up over recent cancellations of Baltic wind projects, the future of #offshorewind faces tough questions. The Interreg Aurora OFFwind – Offshore Wind Turbine Farms project workshop (December 12, Luleå University of Technology & online) gathers experts to explore not only feasibility, turbine innovation, and Arctic adaptation—but also the crucial role of advanced #lowcarbonconcrete in offshore structures. Together, we’ll examine what’s working, what’s emerging, and how to guide offshore wind toward more resilient, #sustainablesolutions. Join us and help shape the next chapter in #offshoreenergy. Details in the program.

Imagine small islands of floating wind walls. A kind of wind trap located in the sea, away from the coast and the eyes, can offer twice the area wiped by the most significant commercial air generators. 📌 The project exists and is signed by the Norwegian startup Wind Catching Systems (WCS). 🔎 The company, founded in 2017, presented its particular offshore wind generator just a few years ago and today is jumping for the big step: realising the first demonstration project in a natural environment. 🎯 A target that is closer today having received in June 2024 the approval of principle (AiP) from DNV. 📣 “Over the last six months, our team has focused on further maturing the technology through optimising the 40 MW Windcatcher design,” explains WCS in a press release. “A key milestone has been the principal approval by DNV, and we are pleased to announce that this milestone has been achieved.” ⬇️ Link in the first comment #RinnovabiliNET #environmnent #greeneconomy #solar #eolic #energy #greenenergy #solarenergy #windenergy #sustainable #sustainablity #sustainabledevelopment

Development under high voltage ⚡ A single offshore wind turbine can supply up to 20,000 households with electricity - and one rotation can generate as much energy as an average house consumes in two days. With rotor blades the size of a jumbo jet, these offshore wind turbines can reach a height of up to 240 meters. The challenge? The technology has to keep up. That's why Dr. Christoph Herold and his team at the Von Roll Institute for High-Voltage Insulation, part of ALTANA's ELANTAS EUROPE division, are working tirelessly on innovative insulation systems that can withstand the extreme conditions.💡⚙️ 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 #future 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: https://lnkd.in/ebJQjxBN #Innovation #Offshore #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy

🌍 About LIGHTWIND 🌊 The LIGHTWIND project is funded by the #EU under grant number 101172835. This project addresses the critical challenges of scaling floating offshore wind turbines beyond 15 MW. Current drive-train solutions struggle with increasing nacelle weights, high repair costs, and the technical and economic demands of far-offshore sites. LIGHTWIND proposes a disruptive, compact, and lightweight drive-train solution designed to: ✔️ Reduce nacelle and rotor mass, easing the demands on floating platforms. ✔️ Lower #turbine and repair costs, ensuring economic viability. ✔️ Enable scalability to 22 MW and 30 MW #floating turbines. ✔️ Minimize critical material usage and maximize environmental #sustainability. 🔍 Our objectives The project will demonstrate the technical feasibility of the drive-train concept and evaluate its economic, social, and environmental impacts by comparing it to existing 15 MW turbine models. This innovative solution aims to unlock the potential of larger, more efficient floating wind turbines for clean energy production. 🔗 Stay updated with our progress on LinkedIn! #LIGHTWIND #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #Innovation #Sustainability
