𝐃𝐨 𝐈 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫? The terms "hunter" and "farmer" are used to describe two distinct sales roles and mindsets within a sales team. They reflect different approaches to generating revenue and managing customer relationships. It's not uncommon for a small business to look for one person to fill both roles. However, this typically doesn't work and the salesperson will gravitate to the role they feel most comfortable. So how do you know which to hire? If your customer base is primarily large, strategic OEMs a Farmer is likely to yield better results. If you're looking to expand your customer base in terms of volume a Hunter is more appropriate. The ultimate is both. A Farmer to grow your existing large accounts and a Hunter to feed the pipeline by going out and finding new ones.

I love it when a company practices what they preach Out of interest I ran the Flexa ad through the https://lnkd.in/eZDSU5RZ tool for job ads, and this is what came back: "This advert is feminine-coded This job ad uses more words that are subtly coded as feminine than words that are subtly coded as masculine (according to the research). Fortunately, the research suggests this will have only a slight effect on how appealing the job is to men, and will encourage women applicants. Of course, there are plenty of other factors that affect the diversity of applicants for this role, and of the people who end up being hired. These include the company's reputation for inclusiveness, its culture, and the behaviour and prejudices (both conscious and unconscious) of the interviewers." In sales, complacency is your enemy. We've all seen it: a rep books a few deals and suddenly eases off the gas, thinking they're set for the month. But then the reschedules, cancellations, and no-shows start rolling in, and before you know it, they're scrambling at the eleventh hour. The best sales reps thrive on discomfort. They're always looking for the next opportunity, the next challenge. This doesn't mean they're stressed or unhappy. It means they're passionate about their work and driven to succeed. I've seen top performers hit their annual quotas early and still be pushing for more. They're always looking to build pipeline and exceed expectations. That's the beauty of sales: your hard work directly translates into your income. It's either a powerful motivator or a reason to quit the field entirely.

Account Management is for hunters who have burned out 🤔🤔🤔 The topic of conversation with a potential client was yesterday. They want hunters, people who have the passion and drive to win new logos and create amazing new business pipelines 💰💰💰 They don't want salespeople who are looking to come in for a target or 2 then become an AM and deal with their already happy clients. Account Management in their opinion is easy, the product is working, the data is most of the time there to back utilization and the renewal rate is strong. Is the next step after a career in NB moving into an AM role if you want to stay an individual contributor in sales? I always find it interesting that hiring companies want to hire sales people with “established relationships”. To me, this means that they are not hiring you, they are hiring your relationships. What if your “relationships” don’t flip their current product or aren’t interested/no need for your current product? You just lost a relationship and are now stuck with a product/company that is not sellable. Now what? Choose a company that wants you, not your relationships. Because once those relationships become “owned” by the company, you may not be needed or wanted.

In most sales roles/jobs one only need to possess people skills. Product and process will come with doing the role. If a company would hire someone out of college with no experience what’s the difference to hire someone with experience but not in that specific product area. I get the fact that experience in specific product areas one can bring contacts, but I also think one that doesn't have contacts for that area could have savvy sales sophistication to create a historical deck!
