Each year, an estimated one-third of all food produced—equivalent to 1.3 billion tonnes worth around $1 trillion—ends up rotting in the bins of consumers and retailers, or spoiling due to poor transportation and harvesting practices. Did you know that the United Nations developed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a roadmap for creating a more sustainable and equitable world? There are 17 SDGs, and we'll be exploring each one, offering clear and concise definitions for you. SDG 12 works toward sustainable consumption and production patterns. It seeks to implement the 10-year framework of programs on sustainable consumption and production, all countries taking action, with developed countries taking the lead. The goal promotes practices that reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse. Get ready for Bunchful's daily highlights of each SDG! 🌍 Every day, we'll reveal a new goal, leading up to all 17. At the end of the series, we'll unveil the SDG theme for the 2024 Bunchful World Summit and Awards. 7moDuring my college research, I was stunned to learn that the world doesn't have a food shortage; we have a distribution problem. Despite ample food production, one-third of all food goes to waste due to issues like capitalism, greed, and logistical challenges. This is a significant but solvable issue. With advancements in technology and increased dedication to supporting the SDGs, I hope we can see effective solutions to this problem. It's unacceptable that so much food is wasted when so many are in need.
