May is #NationalMentalHealthAwarenessMonth so as I prepare today to facilitate the #OpenSpace at #AgileMaineDay2024 I thought I would share a few thoughts. Many of you are probably like me where you give others more grace than you give yourself. So many of us push ourselves to be our best, but sometimes our mind tells us that means we have to be The Best. We hear so much about #ImposterSyndrome these days, and I know I feel it more often than I care to admit wondering whether I’m doing enough, if I’m giving enough, if I am good enough, because my mind tells me I need to be The Best. As I embark on a new journey in my career at #WEX and as I prepare to take 120+ people through a learning journey today, I’m trying to remember that all I need to do is show up, work hard, and bring my best self. Our best self is different every day, and that’s OK. That’s why we have family, friends, coworkers, and we work as teams: because the whole is more than the sum of the parts. It’s OK if we can’t bring 100% every day because we built systems at home, in life, and at work to share the lift. I woke up excited for AMD and feeling 100%, but I immediately started putting pressure on myself to make sure that the day goes perfectly: wondering if I will do a good enough job; hoping that people enjoy their day and have amazing takeaways. That’s when I, and probably so many of you, need to remember that we just need to wake up and be awesome. Being awesome is just being your authentic self and doing your best. So today, and this month, and going forward I know I need to focus on reminding myself that being awesome doesn’t mean perfect. So here’s to being awesome today! #WakeUpBeAwesomeRepeat

How I Learned to Let Go A year after I started working at Netology, I had my first employee leave voluntarily. It was a huge blow for me. "What do you mean you're leaving? Why? We’re working so well together and building such an interesting product. We've just come up with and prepared everything! Now we need to dive into action, but how can we do that without you? We've just started assembling the team—this is not the time to leave." Behind all these seemingly rational questions was: "Can you really leave me? I'm such a great manager!" I began to look for mistakes in my interactions with this person, thinking about where I might have missed something, why I let it slip, how I could have acted differently to keep the person. Why didn't they tell me in advance and discuss it, instead of just presenting me with the fact after already getting an offer? In that situation, the person left for a promotion to a managerial role with a significant salary increase. I realistically had no chance to compete—I couldn't offer a similar salary or position at that time. I was very upset then. For about a year, we hardly heard from or saw each other. The situation weighed heavily on me, but something inside me prevented me from even asking: how are you doing at the new place? Then our mutual friend invited us to visit her in another city. We went with the whole team. She also invited the employee who had left. Over three days of walking by the Volga River, we rebuilt our relationship and found a great deal of commonality and camaraderie. Since then, we have been communicating and befriending each other warmly. That year of processing the situation was very transformative for me. I realized that: - People leave not personally because of me, but from the company. - They leave because they see more opportunities for themselves elsewhere at that moment. You can try to catch this in advance and create a suitable growth track within the company, but sometimes your internal growth proposals are uncompetitive. - They become successful there, and positive feedback from their new colleagues arrives—you can be proud and feel connected at that moment. - Maintaining warm relationships is also useful. Later, you can develop partnership projects and collaborations, sharing things that are not confidential. - And most importantly, it is better to be friends than to hold grudges. Therefore, I let go with gratitude and joy for the person. And it has made my life much easier. We have a chat in Telegram called "Stay in Touch." Initially, our team created it to share non-work stuff and added all newcomers. Now it has become an alumni club: many people have moved to other companies over these four years, but no one has left the chat. We discuss this and other management tools in the Telegram channel "Love Remotely". https://lnkd.in/e9VQ62Jf

Happy International Women’s Day 🫶 So my 4th week into my secondment and the good news is that it’s been extended for another sprint 🙌 So this week in my secondment review I received the most wonderful and positive feedback on my performance from my new team. What a wonderful bunch they are! This has been a huge confidence boost for me. This secondment was a huge challenge for me as it involved going into a whole new team, in a different domain with different ways of working and completely different repos. To hear such positive feedback, I had tears of joy. Also this week I’ve been pairing with the same dev as last week and we’ve implemented another ticket. I also got to write some unit tests and today I’ve been offered the chance to write the implementation for some GTM events 🙌 I also got to go into our Leicester office this week and meet some of the team face to face which was great. Whilst I was in the office I managed to catch a ‘Confident Me’ workshop in celebration of IWD. What a great workshop that was. It was great to hear some wonderful stories and I’ve grabbed me some new tips. I enjoyed it so much that I’ve signed up for the 1 day course in September. I’ve also finally finished a blog post I’ve been meaning to write since last summer, for Dunelm Technology blog called ‘Wrinkles and Repo’s - navigating a journey into software engineering as an older woman’ so watch this space for that being published. Last but not least, I saw my consultant this week for my 6 month post ACL operation review and he was amazed and very pleased at my progress and has officially discharged me 🦵 So tonight I may push the boat out and pour myself a well earned spiced rum and Diet Coke 🤣 #personaldevelopment #learningeveryday #developerjourney #dunelmTechnology #codingjourney #womenintech #confidenceboost #developerlife #iwd2024 #iwd #personalgrowth

My life has changed in the past 8 months! I'm seeing great career growth as a Junior Software Developer at Constellation Technologies Limited. Just last year, I was in a totally opposite situation. Let's go back to know how I got here... I was in my 3rd year of CSE… Looking at all the new developments in tech, I figured that just college was not enough for a tech career in the present market. I needed in-demand tech skills too! My friends and seniors inspired me to join NxtWave to build these skills. As NxtWave offers courses online, it was cost-effective and gave me the flexibility to learn. Gradually, my understanding of tech became stronger. Thanks to their top-notch teaching methods! At some point, people were talking about recession and how it was negatively impacting the job market. But I trusted NxtWave because even in those times, they provided us with opportunities. So, I put my entire focus on building and improving my skills. The curriculum covered all concepts and projects needed before starting an IT career. With my consistent attempts and NxtWave team’s guidance, I cracked a good job. My advice to fellow learners is this. Only focus on building your tech knowledge and avoid negativity. Your skills are your strength. Because in my experience, tech skills are always in demand. #interview #placements #success #communication #career #teaching #programming #hardwork #nxtwave #placedwithccbp #ccbp
