Building a tech career despite being a non-tech graduate wasn’t easy. Not because of the skills, because of the negative comments 👎 “You cannot make it” 👎 “How many days will you remain jobless?” 👎 “You should support your family instead of wasting time” All these comments came when I decided to build a tech career. But I wasn’t perfect either. Though I was building the right skills for a tech job with NxtWave, these comments affected me somehow and led me to take an apprentice job. At that moment, the negative comments around me stopped. But I wasn’t satisfied with what I was doing. I again turned to NxtWave and the team’s personal support felt like a blessing. I only focused on my goal. What I had started, I finished it. My parents are proudly sharing the news of my placement with all our relatives! 🎉 Everyone is congratulating me! I grew up with a SUPERHERO. I saw him handling the family’s responsibilities right from the age of 18. But I never saw him complaining about anything. That SUPERHERO is my elder BROTHER. At an age of being carefree and having fun, his small shoulders lifted the weight of our family’s financial crisis. If I completed my school and college with ease, it was only because of his hard-earned money. Now, it was my time to become his helping hand. With big dreams in my eyes, I started preparing for the government exams. But things weren’t that easy. Due to the pandemic, the notifications were less. And when I appeared in any exams, I couldn’t pass the cut-off. Many questioned my mother, “What was I doing?” They suggested her to get me married. Due to this, I stopped going to functions to avoid such conversations. I felt devastated!! Then I remembered the promise that I made to myself. A promise to help my brother and my family. I left my preparations behind and started looking for private sector jobs. During that phase, something amazing happened. While looking for opportunities, I came across an online tech learning platform. Being a non-tech graduate, I never really thought about the IT sector. But due the ongoing impact of COVID-19 and amazing tech opportunities, I decided to join NxtWave. Learning tech with this program was easy because everything was explained right from the basics. And finally things changed for good. I got placed. I secured a tech job as an 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫. This achievement not only uplifted me but brought immense joy to my family too. I’m excited to share that it’s been a month since I joined iGuru Portal Services as an Automation Test Engineer! My journey to get here has been full of ups and downs, but every experience has taught me valuable lessons. I graduated in 2024.. Initially, I wasn’t interested in IT, but seeing many of my friends successfully settle in tech inspired me to give it a shot. I looked into different courses and eventually chose NxtWave, especially after seeing how it helped a friend secure a placement. I joined in February 2023, even though I had zero coding knowledge and a fear of programming. I relied on the support I received from NxtWave. The mentors, discussion portals, and AI chatbot made learning coding much easier and accessible. I was initially skeptical due to mixed reviews, but as I progressed, I realised the value in the platform. A laptop and mobile data. My parents gave me the best they could afford. With these, I did not waste a single day in building my career. My father is a construction worker. Money was always tight, but my parents never let it compromise my education. From a young age, I wanted to do something big in life. I worked hard and completed BSc Computers. After graduation, I wrote exams for government jobs. But I soon realised that it could take 2-3 or even more years to find success. I couldn’t afford it. I wanted to be in a successful career without losing much time. I started thinking about other plans. Through my friend, I found an online program that helps students get ready for tech jobs with in-demand skills. I joined the program, but it wasn’t easy. As we couldn’t afford a WiFi connection, I learned through my phone’s hotspot. When my laptop motherboard faced issues, I continued learning from my phone because I didn’t want to waste a single day. Every day, I used to spend 6-8 hours building my skills. It continued for many months. I built strong tech skills at NxtWave and cracked a good-paying tech job. Now, I’m working as an Associate Engineer. I’m really thankful to my parents, especially my father who always encouraged me to give my best in what I am doing, and NxtWave for giving me the skills to build a strong tech career. A few suggestions for fellow learners are to be consistent, be patient and most importantly trust yourself. Must-Do Top Class Projects The most important thing I learned from the placement webinar is that just 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗷𝗼𝗯. It's essential to develop soft skills and strong all-around foundations to become a good L1 programmer. So, over the next 3 to 4 months, I'm planning to work on becoming more well-rounded and even better than an L1 programmer. For that, I'm also studying from outside resources. I've been with Nxtwave for about 1½ years, and sometimes I wondered if it was worth the money. But this feature definitely makes it feel like it is.
