Listened to episode #306 of the Football Fitness Federation Podcast with Scott Armistead, MS, LAT, ATC. Lots of information packed into this podcast surrounding the topic of enhancing the rehabilitation process. Within the podcast there are several key takeaways: 👉 Developing within an environment where you are "a one man band" can help to upskill you in areas outside of your discipline, build trust with athletes, and help develop your relationships with them through honesty. 👉 Building trust with your athletes by being vulnerable. 👉 Your responsibility as a practitioner is to enable and empower the athlete even if they are not feeling 100% about their rehabilitation process. 👉 The importance of reflection on what went well and what didn't. 👉 Adopting common language amongst the interdisciplinary staff to ensure clarity and a mutual understanding. 👉 Saturating yourself in multiple domains to understand what other practitioners are saying when in discussions with them. 👉 Using research to drive your conversations with others on your team to keep you up to date, generate productive discussions, and break down the siloed nature of interdisciplinary teams. Final takeaway was within the discussion of a previous episode regarding the quantification of decelerations. To fully understand this discussion I think it important to go back and listen to this previous episode (#300 with Tony Strudwick and Darcy Norman). 👉 The accumulation of fatigue from decelerative actions is based on the "level" of deceleration. The higher the deceleration level, the more fatigue, so understanding the volume of decelerations is not the end all be all when looking at this metric.
