As some of you might know, our job as an eLearning agency is fighting against those old and outdated PowerPoint presentations that companies use, still to this day. However, PowerPoint is NOT our enemy. PowerPoint is not the problem. As a matter of fact, you can make beautiful slides there and create an amazing training experience for your learners. PPT decks are handy for an ILT or a VILT, helping the instructor with that support material for their classes, showing examples, videos, images, and texts, making them more visually appealing. How do we know? Well, we actually do it. We do way more than just Rise and Storyline. So, this is a great example of PowerPoint done right, for an automotive company, one of the many industries we have worked on. This is one of many PowerPoint projects that we’ve done. These are awesome opportunities to show you that PPT presentations don’t have to be ugly and simple if you know how to use it properly. What are your thoughts? Do you still use PowerPoint? #eLearning #Training #LnD #LearningAndDevelopment #Startup

Simplify Training Slides for Better Learning Keep It Simple for Better Learning! 🎯📚 When designing slides for training sessions, simplicity is key to keeping your audience focused and ensuring better retention. Overloading your slides with too much information or cluttered visuals can confuse learners and reduce the impact of your message. Here’s how to simplify your training presentations for maximum effectiveness: ✔ Focus on One Idea per Slide: Each slide should present a single, clear concept. This allows learners to process information without feeling overwhelmed. ✔ Use Visuals to Reinforce Learning: Incorporate images, icons, or diagrams to visually represent key points. Learners retain information better when it’s paired with visuals. ✔ Keep Text Minimal: Use short, concise bullet points or phrases rather than full sentences. This helps learners focus on what’s being said, rather than reading long blocks of text. By keeping your slides simple and focused, you’ll improve understanding and engagement, helping learners absorb and retain the information more effectively. 🔸 What’s your top tip for creating engaging training slides? #powerpoint #slidedeck #pitchdeck

Fluid transitions for #Storyline. If you saw my post yesterday, I shared a PowerPoint mockup for a potential #microlearning, in which I had used the morph transition to move between slides. This was based on an example eLearning I created a few weeks ago, where I had used motion paths and animations to move smoothly between three slides. So here's my progress in #Storyline and I'm pleased to report it's going well! You might be thinking, Emma, I bet that took ages to create! Actually no! It took very little time at all. Now don't get me wrong, it will never be as quick and fluid as PowerPoint, but I think I've got it fairly close. Planning has been key here. Creating the mockup was crucial in determining the animations and deciding whether I could recreate it in Storyline, based on my knowledge of the software's limitations. This has meant when I did jump into Storyline, I was following the mockup like a template, or storyboard, resulting in the the whole process being relatively straight forward. I still have a couple more slides to add and few tweaks to make before I share the finished product, but so far I'm loving the result. And... Go back and check out my post with the PowerPoint mockup if you want to hear more about where the inspo for this microlearning came from. #learningdesign #elearning #digitallearning

20 years ago, Articulate Storyline was an addon for Powerpoint [Clarification: in that it required PowerPoint to work]. We created courses out of "slides". Slides are still the predominant metaphor used by elearning developers. Web developers use "pages", "components" or "content items". Games developers use "scenes". "Slides" implies: ◾ linear progression ◾ content presentation ◾ fixed screen size ◾ unresponsive layouts ◾ no scrolling Things have moved on since those early days of rapid elearning development. With tools like Adapt, Evolve, Gomo and even Articulate Rise, we no longer need to think in slides. We can provide experiences that are more closely aligned to how people use the web elsewhere - responsive, non-linear, scrolling. Are we limiting our thinking by just referring to slides? I was prototyping before I even knew I was prototyping! 🛠️ During the COVID-19 pandemic, I had to adapt my classroom routines and activities for online teaching. 🖥️ One of the hardest parts was figuring out how to recreate things like word walls for my students to use in real-time. So, I rolled up my sleeves and got creative with PowerPoint and Google Slides! 🌟 I started building interactive prototypes, turning simple slides into interactive word walls, choice boards, and clickable calendars where students could easily access missed work. Little did I know, I was already diving into the world of eLearning prototyping! 💡 When I started to upskill in eLearning development, my familiarity with making interactive PowerPoints made learning Storyline so much easier! It was like a natural extension of what I'd already been doing! 📈 In my latest video on the Devlin Peck channel, I’m excited to show you three interactive PowerPoint projects you can create. These projects are perfect for prototyping and can be imported into an authoring tool like Storyline. 🔁 And here’s the best part – next week, we’re hosting a live event where you can vote on which of these three projects we’ll build together. 🗳️ Check out the video to see these interactive PowerPoints in action, and don’t forget to register for the live event! 🎟️ Links to watch the video, sign up for the event, and view a sample of one of my past projects are in the comments below. 🔗 Hope to see you there! 🙌 #InstructionalDesign #Learning #LearningAndDevelopment #eLearning #PowerPoint #LinkedInWithDevlin
