Deciphex is part of the IHI VICT3R initiative, which aims to revolutionize nonclinical drug and chemical safety assessments by reducing the reliance on animal testing. Supported by the Innovative Health Initiative Joint Undertaking (IHI JU), VICT3R will replace animals in control groups with AI-generated Virtual Control Groups (VCGs), involving 33 partner organizations from academia and industry, led by Universitat Pompeu Fabra and Bayer AG. VICT3R aims to reduce animal use by up to 25%, adhering to the 3Rs principles (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement). It will create a comprehensive database of control animal data to improve the reliability of safety assessments and tackle challenges like data sharing and AI integration, while following Good Laboratory Practice standards. Backed by €28 million, VICT3R will enhance scientific and ethical standards in safety evaluations. It plans to expand the VCG approach to other animal studies and ensure long-term maintenance of its database and software platform for continued impact on research and regulatory processes.
