🌍 Embracing Entrepreneurial Thinking in African Research 💡 Research in Africa has immense potential, but to truly unlock it, we need to think like entrepreneurs! Two areas I’m passionate about: 1. Sourcing International Funding 🌐 African researchers need better access to global funding to scale their work and make an impact. Many face challenges in securing funds, which limits innovation. I’ve personally experienced the power of international funding through programs like the #InternationalCareerWritingProgram (#ICWP) supported by @TheBritishAcademy. Let’s bridge this gap and elevate #AfricanScholarship to the global stage! 🌍 2. Converting Research into Patents 💼 Too much research remains stuck in theory. Turning discoveries into #Patents can fuel #EconomicGrowth and solve real-world problems. My work on Urban Heat Island mitigation shows that innovative solutions can be protected and applied, helping us build sustainable cities across Africa. 🌆💡 By focusing on these areas, I’m committed to maximizing the impact of my research and contributing to Africa’s role in creating global solutions. Let’s embrace #EntrepreneurialThinking and drive #Innovation for a brighter future! 🔑 What can you do today to turn your research into real-world impact? Let’s discuss! 🤝 The British Academy Lancaster University Dr. Akanimo Odon Anthony N-yelkabong Ndidi Arinze

“It’s crucial to adopt a multifaceted approach to achieve a competitive economy.” said Ambassador John Ulanga of International Trade and Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East Africa Cooperation, during his speech at Innovation Week Tanzania 2024. “We must cultivate an environment conducive to innovation through education and training. This equips our workforce with essential skills for navigating a technology-driven world and fosters a culture of continuous learning.” He further added that there was a need for policies to promote responsible technological development, including ethical guidelines for AI and biotech. Transparent policymaking builds public trust and fosters collaboration. Economic strategies should incentivize R&D to drive sustainable growth and create jobs, supported by inclusive access to digital tools and resources for all communities. For full insights from Amb.
