The lifecycle of a pharmaceutical product from R&D to Genericization can touch so many lives and in some cases, make the difference between life and death. In the same tune, products at different stages of the lifecycle have different roles and must co-exist for the cycle to work. To me, innovation represents the progress of science in addressing patients' unmet needs. This progress is rewarded with exclusive access so society can continue the course of evolution. Post loss-of-exclusivity, Biosimilars/generics build on this to reach as many as possible, ideally with speed, quality and reliability. This helps to improve access by reducing financial burden, increasing treatment options and promoting health equity. Very eye-opening to have seen the ecosystem at work across my career. Very humbling to see it in practice especially in Asia. Very proud of my colleagues and teams who worked with patient advocates on how we can make access happen.
