Retrospect… Exactly one week ago today, I was called by Fox News Media and asked to provide commentary on the attempted assassination of former President Donald J. Trump. I discussed what I knew at the time. It wasn’t much. One thing I did know is that an AR-15 platform .556 rifle was used and that the muzzle velocity of that round is approximately 3,200 fps, which at 120 yards drops to around 2,800 fps. Both are well beyond the speed of sound. This meant that former President Trump was hit by the round that struck his ear before he heard the gunshot. Beyond that, much of my commentary was opinion based on a quickly developing set of facts. One thing that hasn’t changed is that our nation deserves better than this. An attempt to kill a former U.S. President and the lead candidate for president of either political party in our country is an abomination. We must condemn those who use divisive rhetoric and try to divide us. It’s unconscionable. We are better than this. Much better.
