Day 4 📍 #UNICEF Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) is a humanitarian aid delivery method where instead of providing direct goods like food or blankets, beneficiaries receive cash or vouchers that they can use to purchase the items they need in local markets. Publish What you Fund's 2024 Aid Transparency Index is out, and the UK's FCDO has achieved its aim of getting back up to the 'very good' rating that DFID consistently scored before 2020, when its merger with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office led to a sharp drop in the transparency of UK aid spending. It's great to see that FCDO is among the 'most improved' this year. It is also good to see that our calculations back in May were correct, when the Independent Commission for Aid Impact predicted that FCDO transparency improvements were going to be enough for it to regain a 'very good' score. 🌟 Did you know? Cash and voucher assistance (CVA) is an integral part of humanitarian response, with US$7.9 billion delivered worldwide in 2022. However, effective coordination is key for quality response. In most contexts where CVA is a part of a humanitarian response, a Cash Working Group (CWG) is created to support its effective coordination across the response – a function endorsed by the IASC [in case you want to spell out – Inter-Agency Standing Committee] in 2022. Cash Working Groups (CWGs) have been formed in 71 countries, but there's still a need to resource and strengthen coordination.
