🚧 Council has secured $481,000 for road safety improvements 🚧 In a major step towards reducing road accidents and saving lives, Council has received $481,000 in funding from Transport for NSW under the Towards Zero Safer Roads Program. This initiative aligns with the NSW Government's goal of zero road deaths and serious injuries by 2050. Tragically, someone is hospitalised or killed every 50 minutes on NSW roads. This funding will help deliver critical upgrades to high-risk areas like Macquarie Grove Road, Kirkham, with the aim of improving safety for all road users. By May 2025, Macquarie Grove Road Bridge will undergo improvements of: - Sealed shoulder (1-2.5 meters wide over 800 meters) - New curve warning signs - Guideposts with reflectors As part of the Towards Zero Roads Program, ongoing initiatives like Saving Lives on Country Roads and Safe and Liveable Urban Communities will continue to make a difference in road safety. We’re continuing to invest in road safety with Road Safety Action Plan 2. In the plan we’ve detailed how, alongside our road safety partners, Transport Accident Commission (TAC), Victoria Police Department of Justice and Community Safety, Victoria and Victorian Department of Health, we’ll continue to work on reducing trauma and deaths on our roads. We are continuing to deliver on over $1.1 billion of investment supporting the our commitment to halving deaths and significantly reducing road trauma by 2030, including $350 million for new initiatives. The funding will deliver critical road safety infrastructure, including safety barriers on high-risk curves, rural and urban roads. To protect vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists the plan will fund infrastructure improvements at more than 100 high-risk sites across the state. We will also extend the Distracted Driving and Seatbelt Camera Program that detects dangerous and distracted behaviours such as illegal use of portable devices and seatbelt non-use. We encourage people to also think about the role they play in making our roads safer and to drive safely on our roads. Read the plan in full https://lnkd.in/ga4RzR4E

ℹ️ A49 at Bayston Hill – an update from National Highways ℹ️ Following the incident in Bayston Hill on 11 November when a lorry hit two buildings, we have continued to liaise with the third party insurers and contractors who are managing the structural work on the damaged buildings. Engineers have now confirmed that stabilisation work to the pub will not provide the structural stability required and therefore a portion of the building needs to be demolished. We’re advised that this work is due to take place soon. We are awaiting an update on the necessary work to the second damaged property. Until this work is complete and we are given the assurance that the buildings no longer pose a risk to road users or pedestrians, the temporary traffic lights must remain on the A49. We appreciate the delays and frustration these lights are causing, but safety is our top priority. ⚠️ In addition, Shropshire Council is continuing to monitor the situation and liaise with National Highway to help mitigate any disruption being caused. ⚠️ Road users are advised to take alternative routes where possible. ▶️ For longer distance north / south journeys, we recommend taking the A5, M54, M6, M5 and M50. ▶️ For cross border journeys into/out of North Shropshire, it may be more suitable to use the A483, A458 or A488/A489. ▶️ For cross border journeys into/out of South Shropshire, it may be more suitable to use the A489.

A new enewsletter to help ensure #customers, key stakeholders and local #communities are informed and updated on the National Emergency Area Retrofit programme has been launched by National Highways. SMP Alliance is delivering this programme for National Highways, creating over 150 additional emergency areas on sections of all lane running (ALR) motorway across the country. Communications and stakeholder colleagues from across the Alliance's North, Midlands and South teams have all collaborated and contributed to the newsletter. Featuring useful details on the background of the National Emergency Area Retrofit programme, as well as the locations of all the schemes and further informative details on the roadworks themselves, the newsletter will be published at regular intervals while the works are underway to help educate customers and stakeholders on this important programme. The newsletter also supports the Alliance's 'Confident Customer' and 'Enriched Communities' outcomes, as it features progress updates along with examples of the many #socialvalue and #community #engagement activities being delivered by our schemes across the regions. Critical road safety improvements will be delivered at 13 sites across South Australia, thanks to an $8.9 million investment under the Australian Government's 2024-25 Black Spot program. The program funds safety measures such as traffic signals, roundabouts, safety barriers and shoulder sealing at locations where serious crashes have occurred or are at risk of occurring. So far this year, 37 lives have been lost on South Australian roads. 🛣️ Almost $5 million will go towards projects in regional areas, complementing projects already underway to improve safety on our regional roads. 🚴🏽 $4 million will be used for safety measures in the metropolitan area, funding improvements to intersections and traffic signalling. This includes the installation of a median island with pedestrian and cyclist storage areas on Kensington Road across the intersection with George/Giles Street, Norwood. The recent tragic incident in Bayswater, Perth, where a pedestrian was fatally struck by an errant vehicle, highlights the urgent need for improved urban safety measures. Such incidents can often be mitigated through the deployment of Energy Absorbing Bollards (EABs), designed to provide superior protection against vehicular threats at locations such as transport hubs, public spaces, and other critical infrastructures. These bollards absorb kinetic energy during a collision, reducing the risk of severe injuries to drivers while safeguarding pedestrians and property. Engineered to meet stringent international standards, including ISO 22343-1, PAS 68, and IWA 14-1, EABs can stop vehicles weighing up to 1.7T traveling at speeds of up to 65 km/h, an essential tool for securing public spaces. Australian Bollard’s Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) bollards are already in place at the Bayswater Station, Perth as part of a Broader Rail Link projects under the METRONET initiative protecting pedestrians and commuters. This comprehensive framework is reshaping Perth’s public transport system, enhancing connectivity, supporting urban development, and ensuring public safety. By contributing to projects like Bayswater Station, we are proud to support a vision of safer, smarter cities. Australian Bollards is committed to protecting communities and critical infrastructure across the nation through innovative safety solutions. https://lnkd.in/gYFUHDXs #industrialdesign #security #safety #police #futurism #engineering #design #environmental #healthandsafety #innovation #management #technology #travel #construction #smartcities #nationalsecurity #scienceandtechnology #crime #breaking #perth
