I recently did a quick analysis for one of my clients, putting the German trade shows they attend in a matrix: I looked at the number of exhibitors, the main product groups represented at the shows, the number of trade visitors plus the economic sectors (%) they represent, and some other information. The matrix served as a tool to better understand what to generally expect from particular shows and to streamline pre-show activities. This is a quick and easy exercise if you know where to get the data from. You can use the AUMA - Association of the German Trade Fair Industry database free of charge. However, to get the right "feel" for a show, you need to go visit. This is why I quite often attend shows, even when they are not (yet) particularly relevant to me. What Brings You to Congress? As President Ed Hansen states, “Connection matters, and Congress is where you’ll make them.” The possibilities are endless! ED Joe Salemi, CAE summarizes it perfectly in Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association Magazine: “Even though the (landscape) industry is massive, it is a tight and connected community. Landscape Ontario’s signature event (Congress) is actually a homecoming for members of the landscape horticulture community.” I would add, by extension, it’s a homecoming for our society as well. What contractors learn here is then planted outside in all the communities, enriching lives and landscapes everywhere. That’s what brings me to Congress – CONNECTION.
