World Soil Day 2024 "Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage" emphasizes the vital role of accurate and standardized soil data and information. This knowledge empowers us to understand soil properties and make informed decisions for sustainable soil management, ensuring food security and addressing climate change. This impactful video showcases the significant efforts we have undertaken in Africa through the Soils4Africa initiative, funded by the #EU. By providing precise data, we are laying the groundwork for a comprehensive soil information system that will monitor the quality of agricultural lands throughout the continent. #WSD024 #CaringForSoil #SoilScience #Soils #SoilHealth Mary Steverink Rik van den Bosch Andries Bosma 'Wole Fatunbi MetaMeta International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) ISRIC - World Soil Information Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa - FARA European Commission

A holistic grazing success story 🇿🇲🐄 from Zambia! What they did was simple yet powerful: the villagers pooled their cows into a communal herd, managed by professional herders. Using holistic grazing, they moved the herd daily with electric fences, ensuring no spot was grazed more than once a year. The results? Kids are back in school, the cows are healthier, and the entire ecosystem around the village is lush and green again 🌿 This is just one of the incredible stories shared by Patrick Worms in the latest episode of the Deep Seed podcast. 🎙️ I promise, you’ll be inspired by what’s possible when farmers, ecosystems, and animals work together to regenerate the land. 🙌 Let’s spread the word about these game-changing agricultural approaches—tag someone who needs to hear this! ⎯⎯⎯⎯ Special mention to Rolf Shenton, behind this initiative in Zambia. 10 great reasons to support #agroecology 👏. And agroecology is FUN! It has the power to engage our imagination, and enable us to co-create in a far more meaningful way than conventional agriculture. When you’re in harmony with #nature, you can dream, sing and dance about it. Did you ever hear anyone sing about using chemical pesticides or fertilizers?
🌎 Happy #WorldEnvironmentDay ! Today is a perfect opportunity to reflect on the benefits of #Agroecology on nature, ecosystems and beyond. We identified 10 reasons to support agroecology. Can you think of others? Let us know in the comments! https://lnkd.in/dZCTE54Y

Dr. Jane Morrison (Bishop's University) in collaboration with Dr. Geneviève Labrie (UQAM | Université du Québec à Montréal) received funding with Centre SÈVE 2024 New Investigator Competition. They have been awarded a grant for a project focused on the "Ecosystem Service Multifunctionality of Biodiverse Hedgerows in Organic Polyculture Production Systems". Their research will explore the ecosystem service multifunctionality of biodiverse hedgerows in organic polyculture systems. By examining multiple ecosystem services simultaneously, including pollinator support, pest control, soil health improvement, and crop yield enhancement, the study aims to evaluate the agricultural potential and practicality of biodiverse hedgerows for small-scale farms. The project will conduct experiments at a primary site and partner farms, ultimately developing a decision tool to help farmers assess the viability of implementing biodiverse hedgerows in their specific contexts. Congratulations! #EcosystemServices #BiodiverseHedgerows #OrganicFarming #Polyculture #SustainableAgriculture #PollinatorSupport #PestControl #SoilHealth #CropYield #SmallScaleFarming #AgriculturalResearch #Agroecology #BiodiversityConservation #FarmManagement #DecisionTools
