Granulocyte-Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor (GM-CSF), a cytokine, is associated with the quality of oocytes. It is also one of the cytokines that embryos cannot produce autonomously. In a published study comparing cytokine levels in oocyte donor follicular fluid, GM-CSF levels were significantly higher where all oocytes were high quality, compared with where <60% were high quality.
