Out in print in World Medical & Health Policy with Steven Sylvester Stability and policy threats: US public opinion after a decade of the Affordable Care Act https://lnkd.in/gjujJHsY Key points • The Affordable Care Act (ACA) remains a political battleground in the minds of Americans. The politics of the ACA continue to be shaped by perceptions of race and partisanship. • Utilizing different labels for the ACA continues to elicit differential responses based on the partisanship and racial biases of respondents. • However, we found only very limited evidence for changes to public attitudes related to the policy threat of the Supreme Court ruling the ACA constitutional in California v. Texas.

🫀 Breakthrough Legislation: Access to AEDs Act Passes U.S. Senate A major public health victory: The U.S. Senate has passed the Access to AEDs Act, allocating $25M over 5 years to expand AED availability in schools nationwide. This bipartisan effort, championed by Buffalo Bills' Damar Hamlin and Senator Chuck Schumer, marks a crucial step in preventing sudden cardiac arrest fatalities among students. As medical professionals, we understand the critical importance of the "golden minutes" following cardiac arrest. This legislation will help ensure our schools are better equipped to respond to these life-threatening emergencies. #PublicHealth #CardiacCare #SchoolSafety #MedicalEducation #AED #EmergencyMedicine

Excited to share our latest publication in JAMA Network Open in collaboration with the PHICOR team at CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy: "Modeling Nursing Home Harms From COVID-19 Staff Furlough Policies." "This modeling study found that mandatory furlough of nursing home staff with mild COVID-19 illness was associated with more resident harm from missed care tasks than with harm from increased COVID-19 transmission. In the current climate of extreme nursing home understaffing, allowing those with mild COVID-19 illness to work may prevent more harm from staffing shortages and missed care tasks, ultimately saving substantial costs." https://lnkd.in/gb3bg_qK
