Sepsis lies at the heart of the origins and development of resuscitation. The ESICM congress is a key point of communication with the ISICEM and SCCM congresses. 🔥Sepsis is the body's "desperate" response to an infection it considers threatening. All organs fail to a greater or lesser extent. It is frequent responsible for 20% of deaths worldwide, an half of Intensive care (ICU) workload and cost. Sepsis is responsible for the deaths in case of pandemic such as COVID. The risk of pandemic is growing due to global warming and geopolitical context. ICU availability becomes a critical and vital point is that case. Sepsis and the saturation of ICU were the reasons for confinement during the COVID pandemic. 🔥Sepsis is often very sudden. We go from a banal infection to "something else" without realizing it at first. It's an emergency. Sepsis is central to intensive care, which is often life-saving (20-50% mortality). There is no specific treatment. Their is a need also to diagnose it early and to develop post-ICU care. Convalescence of sepsis is long (e.g. long COVID) and required specific care such as nutritional, physiotherapeutical and psychological care. Sequels are unfortunately frequents. Sepsis = #cancers =#cardiovasculardisease =#cardiovascular diseases =#Similar in term of Mortality, Suffering and Cost. Sepsis is at the heart of intensive care(ICU) réanimation in French (# Bring the life again). Intensive Care is a new and badly understood medical specialty and care. ICU originates in the 50s from the management of infection (poliomyelitis, internal medicine) and anesthesiology (perioperative management). It enables patients to survive in a state where "in nature" they would have died. This explains the two names intensive care and resuscitation. What is ICU https://lnkd.in/e4cfygbx Beginning of ICU (origins) https://lnkd.in/eV46-gxP. But what is sepsis? 🔥Sepsis is the body's "desperate" response to an infection it considers threatening. It's an emergency => intensive care (ICU), often life-saving (20-50% mortality). But there is no specific treatment for sepsis. 🔥It's already one of the leading causes of mortality, suffering (of families, loved ones, recovering) and the cost. (20% of global mortality, 0.5% of US GDP, 0.3% linked to hospitalization in intensive care and convalescence for long months/weeks). We are proud to share that the admedicum colleagues Vera Vennedey and Christian Hoenig authored, together with others, a new publication in the Journal JU Open Plus on Patient Preferences for Surgical Treatments for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: A Discrete Choice Experiment. Read the full publication here: https://lnkd.in/dyj6Ysb8 This research highlights the importance of understanding what truly matters to patients when considering treatment options. By incorporating patient preference information (PPI), healthcare decisions become better aligned with patients' needs, values, and expectations – something we at admedicum are deeply committed to through our patient2decide solutions. A big thank you to our dedicated team and co-authors for advancing patient-focused solutions in healthcare research! #PatientEngagement #PatientPreferences #PatientExperience #SharedDecisionMaking

Patient preferences reveal what patients actually want when making informed health care decisions using their own experiences, beliefs, and values. Why is it important to know this? Because it is the basis for adherence to the therapeutic goal and treatment chosen together by the clinician and patient. The crux of the matter, however, is that patient preferences are often only guessed at or based on more or less anecdotal "evidence" rather than on sound scientific data. That's why methodology matters. I am very pleased to share this post, which highlights a recent publication on a project of admedicum funded by Boston Scientific and co-authored by my colleagues Vera Vennedey and Christian Hoenig as well as our senior scientific advisor Heinz Holling. #patientpreferences #discretechoiceexpertiment #DCE
