As we kick off the 16 days of action against gender-based violence, it's wonderful to officially announce the expansion of the Community Restorative Centre's Miranda Project. Over 70% (and according to some research as high as 90%) of women in prison are victim-survivors of domestic, family or sexual violence. The Miranda Project works specifically with these women, providing tailored support to ensure these women access the kinds of services they require and are treated with dignity and respect. Co-located with the local women's health service (in Penrith and now also in Liverpool), women receive wraparound care helping them move forward on a path towards health and stability, and breaking cycles of violence and incarceration.
We’re thrilled to share that Community Restorative Centre's Miranda Project is now reaching women in Southwest Sydney! As the first and only service of its kind in Australia, the Miranda Project provides trauma-informed support for women impacted by both domestic and family violence and the criminal justice system. Now also co-located with Liverpool Women’s Health Centre, the Miranda Project offers a safe space alongside practical support, skills development and connection with key services. We are proud to invest in the Community Restorative Centre as they continue their mission to reduce the number of women in custody by breaking cycles of disadvantage and offering pathways out of the criminal justice system.
