This was a big project, and I am excited about what this collaboration has accomplished. Thank you to my co-authors/collaborators from CRL, Fraunhofer ITEM, and IIVS. This recently published paper advocates for point-of-contact toxicity testing with in vitro models representing tissues in the upper and lower respiratory airways. It also highlights the importance of combining in vitro and in silico methods for local effects safety assessment from exposure to inhaled irritants. Open access full text available here: https://lnkd.in/eHW7Zme7
We are happy to share a recent publication "A Proof-of-Concept for Safety Evaluation of Inhalation Exposure to Known Respiratory Irritants Using In Vitro and In Silico Methods" (Sadekar, Behrsing, et al., 2025). This multi-lab collaboration with Research Institute for Fragrance Materials, Inc. (RIFM), highlights how New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) are used for the safety evaluation of inhalation exposure to chemicals and products.
