It's estimated that more than $202 trillion of investment will be required to develop the solutions to achieve net zero emissions and reverse the damage that humanity has already inflicted on nature. That means advising companies on what to do about their climate and environmental impact is now big business. Pollination is an advisory and investment firm with its fingers in both planetary pies — it advises companies on how to achieve net zero and become nature positive, and picks a handful of startups that are developing the best solutions to invest in. The firm was established four years ago by Martijn Wilder AM and Tony O'Sullivan. Pollination's global head of investments Diana Callebaut told our reporter Kate Burgess that the group invests on behalf of a range of investors, who have vastly different risk and return profiles. "This ranges from corporates who are particularly interested in CAM's (Climate Asset Management, a partnership with HSBC) nature-based carbon fund to high net worth and family offices who are attracted to our early stage and venture climate and nature investment. Forward Thinking Investor? Planet-A-mor's green investment plan offers an effortless and intelligent choice for those looking to merge financial growth with ethical sustainability. With a promise to quadruple investments through a robust sustainable finance strategy—investing in trees for returns via raw timber and Carbon Credits—the plan stands out for its low risk and high transparency. Each tree is geolocated, ensuring investors can monitor their contributions, with returns beginning after 6 years and potentially extending over a quarter-century. An initial investment in a hectare of trees not only forecasts a substantial ROI but also aligns with impactful environmental and social goals, from biodiversity enhancement and social empowerment to animal protection and CO2 sequestration. Coupled with minimal risk, as verified by Planet-A-mor's assessment, this investment is not just financially sound but also a profound step towards positive global change, making it a no-brainer for forward-thinking investors.

https://lnkd.in/drik7Km7 The loss of biodiversity is a catastrophe for civilization and the economy, with $58 trillion (55% of global GDP) is directly reliant on nature (we are all 100% reliant on nature obviously) Agriculture, driving 80% of biodiversity loss, worsens floods, droughts, and even conflict. Regenerative Agriculture offers a solution that boosts yields and profits while restoring nature. HOW DO YOU BEGIN TO DO THIS? ENGAGE Leadership: Ensure boards, C-suites, and investment teams fully understand how impact and profit go hand-in-hand in regenerative models. ASSESS Biodiversity Risk: Conduct a biodiversity risk assessment of your portfolio. DIVEST from degenerative sectors like the companies enabling chemical agriculture, IP crop companies and remember to cover both direct and indirect investment portfolios. REALLOCATE Capital: Strategize investments into areas offering both commercial and catalytic returns. Collaborate with asset managers to identify and create opportunities. Explore avenues like real asset models (e.g., like Regenerate Asset Management's RESA Fund), high-integrity carbon trading, green bonds, impact funds, and conservation finance. COLLABORATE with stakeholders: work with pension holders, regulators, and stakeholders and industry peers to overcome challenges and ensure a collaborative approach to transformation. There will be no future returns for our existing financial system unless we fundamentally change the way it works. A future system must value nature's services and penalise (tax, cost of capital, licence to operate) companies that does not exist in a net postive relationship with our natural, common ressources - and we need to do it fast. One of the objectives of the 2024 Principles for Responsible Investment Awards was to share exciting examples of innovative industry practice. As part of that we have published the shortlisted case studies from the Recognition for Action – Nature category. Great timing with COP16 Colombia in full swing in Columbia and fantastic to see submissions from Brazil, Indonesia and South Africa. This category was super-competitive with margins between all submissions being extremely thin. All of these case studies are available here >> https://lnkd.in/eJPCQNdi Category Winner Groupe Caisse des Dépôts - one of the judges commented; “a great example of how a financial institution can embed nature throughout its operations….if other financial institutions follow CDC’s leadership our chances of reversing nature loss by 2030 will be significantly increased” Shortlisted submissions included: AXA Investment Managers – the submission described a financial product that enables investors to target improvements in natural capital with a series of specific examples relating to the Brazilian Amazon. EcoEnterprises Fund - a women-led investment fund investing in regenerative agriculture, aquaculture and agroforestry alongside working with investee companies to deliver real-world impacts. Gresham House – one of the judges commented “This project has a clear ambition – to protect and restore nature – and provides a leadership example others can follow. Habitat Banks demonstrate the potential to attract finance to nature increasing our chances of becoming nature positive by 2030.” Nuveen, a TIAA company – in this submission, Nuveen identified 50 companies exposed to nature related financial risks, developed a clear stewardship programme, setting targets, outlined engagement processes and aligned proxy voting. Watch out for the next shortlisted case studies (climate, human rights, RI investment strategy and stewardship) over the coming weeks. Impact investing is redefining the financial landscape, representing a significant shift in how we perceive and utilize capital. It's a strategy that goes beyond mere profit generation, aiming to address global challenges while also generating financial returns. In 2023, the impact investing market reached a remarkable 1.3 trillion USD in Impact Investing., demonstrating the growing appetite for investments that align with social and environmental values. However, the true significance lies not just in its current size but in its explosive growth trajectory. Industry analysts project an annual growth rate of 17% to 18.8% in the coming years for the total AUM in the impact investing market, indicating an influx of hundreds of billions of dollars into this sector each year. This surge is fueled by a confluence of factors, including heightened investor awareness of global issues, increased demand for sustainable investments, and the potential for competitive financial returns. Investors are directing capital towards diverse sectors such as forestry, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, affordable housing, and healthcare, effectively tackling pressing global challenges. Impact investing represents a powerful tool to address issues like climate change, poverty, and inequality, while simultaneously providing attractive financial opportunities. The growth of impact investing is a testament to the evolving priorities of investors who seek to create positive change alongside financial gains. It's a movement that transcends traditional investment paradigms, offering a compelling model for a more sustainable and equitable future. #Growth #ImpactInvesting #Forestry #Reforestation
